Step Out with Inghams
For walking, hiking, cycling
and many more active pursuits, Austria’s
Salzburgerland makes a fabulous holiday. The outdoor enthusiast steps
out into an enormous 7000km of marked hiking trails with more than 50
cable lifts in operation in summer to help access. With 30% of the
total land area protected as natural sanctuary and car-free tributary
valleys served only by walker’s bus this beautiful countryside is cared
for and preserved.
Gentle hillside rambles and more rugged and rocky climbs open up views
over the stunning scenery below - this region is a true delight for all
active types from walkers to climbers, runners and cyclists. On top of
this, there’s great scope for watersports on the lakes plus canyoning,
summer skiing, balloon rides, parachute jumps and more.

Saalbach/Hinterglemm
This is a walker’s paradise with a 400km network of paths and many
cable cars to help explore, plus plenty of mountain huts for enjoying
the scenery over a drink. A walker’s lift pass is available which also
covers the valley buses and the indoor/outdoor leisure pools in
Saalbach and the Tourist Office runs a daily free guided walking
programme.
The Glemm valley is also a great place for cycling and mountain biking
with cycle hire available in both resorts. There is also an 8-hole golf
course, horse-riding, archery and a wide variety of children’s
activities.

Filzmoos
Filzmoos is a children’s paradise in summer: there is a big leisure
centre with both indoor and outdoor pools, two bowling alleys, a
children's play area and a climbing wall. There is also a children’s
club with daily activities available in some weeks, mini-golf,
horse-drawn buggy rides, pony riding, and of course plenty of walking
(Inghams offer guided walks and there is also a walker's bus service). |

The Lakes
Apart from being very scenic, Austria’s Lake District offers a variety
of outdoor activities, from watersports to cycling and walking.
|
St. Wolfgang
This is the largest and best known of the Lake resorts, famous for its
White Horse Inn which was the subject of an operetta by Ralph Benatzky
as well as for the Schafberg railway, the steepest steam cog railway in
Austria. There are gentle lakeside walks, cycle rides and golf
courses
to enjoy, as well as more adventurous pursuits such as sailing,
windsurfing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, tennis, horse-riding, mountain
biking and mountain climbing, plus a daily activity programme for
children, so something for everybody.
|
St.
Gilgen
St. Gilgen is at the other end of Lake Wolfgang and has a similar
selection of activities on offer, including a lakeside lido with pedalo
hire, water skiing, windsurfing and sailing. There are also regular
boat trips to St. Wolfgang and other stops on the lake. |

|
Fuschl
Fuschl is situated on Lake Fuschl, and is a smaller, quieter version of
St. Gilgen. Along with 60 miles of marked walking paths there are
four
public beaches near Fuschl, one of which offers activities such as
beach volleyball, a water trampoline, rowing boats, tennis and table
tennis. There are also regular boat excursions from Fuschl and
even a
summer toboggan run.

Salzburg
Salzburg can be added as an extension to all of the above resorts, and
with it’s picturesque fortress and Mozart and Sound of Music
connections it is very popular with visitors from all over the world. |
