The New Force Ten Helium Carbon doesn't look much like the old Helium Superlite to me. More like based on the TN Laser > based on the H Akto.

7100gms for a 3 man tent? Are you sure about that, 7.1Kg seems a bit heavy. :0)

But isn't the old Vortex 300 lighter at 4.9 Kg?

carbon poles...............no thanks.

Not for me either with the places I put my compromises, but it's just another place you can juggle weight vs. solidity.  You could just as well say "alloy poles under 9 mm..... no thanks", or "grounsheet made of the main fly fabric..... no thanks" etc. etc.  They're all valid choices for some particulat niche.

Pete.

From the Force Ten website:

Standard Mk 3
Capacity: 2 person
Total weight: 7.1kg
Pack size: 54 x ø27cm
Pitching time: 10 mins

Excellent tent - I've had one for over 20 years. But, I don't carry it! Only for car camping...

Excellent tents. I've had one for over 20 years (some people have had them much longer). Mind you - it's for car camping- I don't carry it!

Worse, it says 7.1 kilos for a 2 man tent.

Hi there, I am researching a light weight backpacking tent for two and wondered why you don't like the idea of carbon poles??

I haven't heard anything negative about carbon poles before so just curious to your opinion...

Thanks

Carbon fibre walking poles are very strong and light, but apparently prone to catastrophic failure -- and tent poles will be thinner and so presumably more vulnerable. A snapped walking pole would be annoying, but a snapped tent pole could be much worse. Alu poles do suffer damage, of course, but some bodge can usually be achieved, which would be difficult with a completely shattered carbon pole.
