There are many of us older backpackers who cut our teeth using Saunders tents. Certainly one of the pioneering names in the UK outdoor market who helped to popularise lightweight camping and make it available to all.

One of the true innovators, up there with Peter Hutchinson, Mike Parsons, Don Whilans and others who did so much to create what we take for granted now.

Wow how spooky. I was just thinking about Saunders tents and all the great trips I had in Fellpackers and Spacepackers in South America, Pyrenees the HRP and elsewhere and thus did a quick Google on the 26th and 3.40pm and came across this obituary. Just as the funeral was happening. He (Robert Saunders) really does walk amongst us!

True legend, tents where less is more!
