Funnily enough, I've not been able to get beyond the first couple of chapters either and have been thinking of giving it another go. I really enjoyed Mountains of the Mind, but this one's got be stumped at the moment. I may stick it in the bag for Knoydart...

I didn't get beyond the first sentence... I know that's maybe unfair, but it was so ridiculous that I sort of recoiled from the book in disbelief. I did try dipping into the later chapters, but despite the cover blurb about it being 'hugely readable' [Stephen Venables no less and Colin Wells too] I found the bits I tried to read just a bit turgid and inaccessible.

Then again, some people like that slightly worthy, academic-ish writing style and who am I to disagree. It's all personal taste.

I am really looking forward to "Freedom Climbers"! Should be a really exciting book.

If you go to Amazon, you can read chunks of the book. I didn't like the style so didn't buy it. It also looks pretty selective (as it would have to be) and is really 'A' history rather than 'THE story'.

 Has a great bibliography though....

Meant to add have just started 'Freedom Climbers'. So far, it's great - far more my style! Good researchers don't always make good authors!
