On a bit of a budget

After a functional 2-3 man tent for backpacking and mountain use for under £200. Lets see what you good people have to offer.

Fingers crossed

I have a Jack Wolfskin Pocket Hotel. Fine for two bods, but it would be cramped with three. It's a twin hoop tunnel construction, a bit fiddly to erect for one person, but easy enough with two. It's rock-solid once the flysheet is pegged out. It's only rarely been used, but it's withstood howling gales, including being pitched at 13,000ft in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It has a yellow inner and brown flysheet, and comes with material patches if you ever manage to damage it and need to do a repair while outdoors. Weighs 2.75kg, so nice and light when split between two people. Yours for £75 inc p&p.

I'll check next time I'm in the loft... watch this space!

OK... loft visited and tent inspected...

Without actually putting the thing up somewhere and measuring it, it's hard to say how much space there is in the porch. I know I've stowed a big backpack in the front, but I don't know if it would take two big backpacks. On the other hand, the back of the tent unzips, though you'd have to be inside the tent to make use of the space between the tent and flysheet, as the back of the flysheet doesn't unzip. At the front of the flysheet, there are two zips, so you can roll the whole front upwards if you like.

I have a Big Agnes String Ridge 2...bought about a year ago, not a big name in the UK but a quality, lightweight & roomy item. Willing to sell as I need something more akin to family camping. The porch is fairly big but tbh it's so big inside I tend to stash with me.

How much were you looking for Jay?

Sam,

£200 inc delivery...top of your budget but it's a fantastic tent only used about 5 times.

I'd say it's definitely a 2 man but loads of sit up room. Cons? The bottom of the fly can be flappy in the wind (earplugs?) and the top can creak also due to the fly being tight across the poles. Also it's pitched inner first so practice before setting out in case it's wet! It's easy to put together though.

I'm reluctant to sell tbh but need a family tent and the plan is to buy a one man at some point for occasional wild camping.

Jay.

(Note I've had to re-register as I submitted a .com email address in error..doh.)

The Coleman, Peter? Not for me, thanks. I have a Coleman Rock Springs 4 knocking about from several years ago. That was fine for car camping though.

Hi Jay - sorry for the late reply - My girlfriend gone and bought me a Hilleberg Nallo 3 so problem solved I guess! However we are now bankrupt!

I am green with envy. Though not about the bankruptcy, obviously. Happy travels.

I bought a Robens Vista 300 for (small) family use online...reckon the big agnes will go on here before I try ebay.

I'm pretty sure someone will snap it up - I was pretty close till the Nallo intervention. Best of luck.
