Hi
I'm after buying a Shangri La 3 in green. I don't need an inner or groundsheet but can consider them if part of the package.
If anybody has one for sale I'd be pleased to hear from them.

Cheers

Coincidentally I'm after an SL3 in yellow...

And have a bump too.

If I hear of a Yellow one I'll let you know.
I've been pointed towards the Luxe Outdoor Mini Peak II as an alternative.
It looks very interesting and cheap :0)

I've sent an email, as Bala isn't too far from me.

The Luxe Outdoor Mini Peak II does look like a decent alternative though - cheers for that!

A few have sold on Backpackinglight.com recently so worthwhile keeping an eye open there especially after the huge reduction sales in the US recently.

If you have any contacts out there that could purchase/ship for you it could be worthwhile looking out for deals straight from Golite too.

Thanks LJ
I've emailed the Bala one as well in case it is green :0)

Thanks LJ but not for me. I don't need the nest. Perhaps it will be ok for Christiaan?

They're on sale in the GoLite store in the US for $199, a great shame they don't ship internationally! I'm going to try and get one via family who live out said colonies (

No longer needed.
I made the mistake of phoning the outdoor store and talked myself into buying the Mni Peak II

It should be here tomorrow

Where do you intend using it?

Hi MW

I'm a cycle camper usually found in Shropshire and the Welsh Marcher counties so I am rarely in the high, wild remote places.
I've an Akto which is excellent for day to day moving on but find it confining for sitting out a day's bad weather. My tent for fixed camps is two berth but weighs 3.6kg and is bulky.

I am expecting this Mini Peak will give me the extra space of the two berth with little weight or bulk penalty over the Akto.

I'm intrigued as to why you ask. Is there something you know or think about the tent that you can share?

I bought one in China last year - seems solid but the mesh (on mine, at least) isn't no-see'um, so may not be a barrier to midges. I've yet to use it in anger. Will you be carrying a pole while cycling?
24/04/2012 at 07:28
I'm not a midge country lover after an unfortunate one day of midges and ten days of rain camping holiday in Western Scotland some 25 years ago. When I go to Scotland nowadays I travel by train and stay in the cities.

I may well remove the mesh and raise the tub walls like the Ookworks tub I had made for the Akto.
I will carry a pole. I have a four foot nesting aluminium pole that will strap to the top tube. I'm planning to extend it with a length of bamboo. If that doesn't work I'll make one from a spare ally or glass fibre shockcorded one.

At the price, I'll be quite happy making alterations :0)

I have an SL3 pole that Sean gave me for postage costs when my first one snapped in high winds. No longer needed; would probably fit at minimum extension, I could pass on the karma (but not until early July).

I'll be using mine this summer. I cut off the mesh netting and intend using just the floor - the corner guys have stiffened fins that should help keep it upright. My gut feeling is the tent will be a little short for someone over six feet tall, but want to try it out first.
24/04/2012 at 07:46
Thanks for that MW. I'd be interested in the pole in July :0)

I'm only 5'7" so I should have oodles of room. Bob at Backpackinglight.com is 6'2" and had enough room, I believe.

Well, he would say that, wouldn't he....head space is great, I'm not sure about lying down once the sleeping bag is factored in, bearing in mind my two years with an SL3. However, for your purposes I think it could be a better bet than the SL3. PM me late June if you still want that pole.

In my eagerness to buy I dropped my normal cycnical approach :0)
To be fair though, he did say he had only one left of the last (first batch?) he bought and the next batch are due in a couple of weeks so they must be selling.

The perfect tent? It's a bit like the perfect bike - all in the mind and probably doesn't exist!

Thanks about the pole. Back in touch with you later.

Cheers
