Julian, the boots that I use right now that don't cause me grief are ksb summits (same as Garmont Pinnacles) and Salomon Mt Trek GTX 6 or 7, the dark grey ones? that might be wrong though, the name's not printed on them, but with a pair of super greens in them they're fine. I've got Berghaus raids, very bendy lightweights, no problems and a lot of discontinued ksbs of varying vintage. And when money is more abundant I'll be getting a set of asolos, their fit is spot on.

Alex - the Mountain Guide one's which I bought a couple of weeks back performed well on the 'kicking' I gave them.
Best part of 17 miles in the Dales last week. Heal is so snug on them, and you can actually feel the rolling action taking the stresses away from the heel.
Not so good news for the ball of the feet though. I only wore two liner socks and the pressure was too much at the front. Have tried them with Bridgedale Summits and they are fine.
I might well shove to Sorbophane (spell) in there instead.
But, I'm chuffed with them and they didn't leak once!

Thanks Mike, damn well hope that a Goretex lined boot wouldn't leak after 2 weeks! ;-)
As you may have guessed from my other Raichle-related forum, I'm tossing up between going for the 3 season Mt Trail XT GTX and the 3/4 season Mt Peak XT GTX. I'm not sure if I'd be going a little OTT with the Peak boot though...

My boots sold on ebay for a respectable amount. Hope the fella has better luck with them than I did :o)

Alex - well I would recommend them!

I may be wrong but I think the Mountain Peak and Mountain Trail XT use the same Vibram Backpacking Rolling II soles, and from a practical standpoint they're both 3-4 season boots. Bendy, but less than 10 degree flex, and certainly suitable with strap on crampons for short periods of use (but not as stiff as a Scarpa SL). For a proper Raichle 4 season boot you may want to get a model such as the 60 Degree, which has a much stiffer sole (the Manta equivalent). So no, you wouldn't be going over the top with the Peak boots. Raichle rates the Mountain Trail and Peak as B0, but given the fairly stiff (albeit bendy) soles I think they should be closer to B1. They also rate the 60 Degree as B1, when they should be closer to a B2.

Thanks Cake, I was given the impression from Jon's review that the Peak has a stiffer sole?
I definately can't justify buying a 4 season boot, I was just after a 3/4 boot I could use for mountain walking that was crampon compatible for icy conditions.

Then the Peak or Mountain Trail would fit the bill very well. I normally wear mine with a pair of Black Diamond Contact Strap crampons (B1), which fit the wider Raichles perfectly. It's a great combination, very generous toe fit and certainly better than the Grivel G10.

Excellent 3 season boot. Good heel retention, excellent rolling sole in Vibram. Just got a pair at good price from Gaynors in Ambleside

Hi folks, went for the 3/4 season Mtn Peak and tried them out all last week on the icy snow-clad Snowdonian ridges & peaks.
Served me really well after a little tweeking for my flat feet, though I take Cake's point about the G10 (was a bit of a squeeze, but tight once strapped up).
BTW Mtn Trail definately has more flex in the sole, but it uses the same tred design.

My mountain trail are great, the fit is good even after 12 months of use. The main problem after this amount of use is the webbing strap(for laces)is starting to wear which will end up with the boots being unusable, mine seems to have worn pretty bad though I say I have abused to boots. I will buy another pair from Raichle as these boots have worked well for me. They are a bit greasy when use on wet rock, you learn very fast how to deal with these situations( avoid), I like to rolling soul factor of the boot ‘it seems to make walking with a large pack a bit better (maybe psychological). The fit was very good right out of the box

Picked up a pair for £90 from the Outdoor shop in Milton Keynes in their sale a couple of months ago.Seem to fit me OK.Will try & get a bit more use out of them over the winter.

My GTX pair let me down after 1.5 weeks in the alps and a few weekends in the lakes. The sole started to come away from the boot. They were subsequently replaced (by Cotswolds) and I promptly nearly died off the CMD in wet weather in august, since then the toe had been scuffed with some serious nicks taken from the suede after one scree walk in the lakes! Incredibly comfortable though! why can't i get durable and comfortable?

The same has happened to me. I done a 70 mile walk in the swedish mountains. The terrain was very tuff going, I made it through but my boots didn't. The sole on one of my boots started to come away from the boot. And the other blows bubbles were the water is getting in. I'm a bit p. off as these boots are not cheap.

I have a pair of 2006 Raichle Peaks and have just done a 150k walk in them through the great dividing range on the east coast of Australia. Really comfortable, solid, stable and great for a heavy backpack (over 20kg when I had a full 6L of water). The walk was a constant climb and decline through the great dividing range. No complaints up untill the last day or so. Then I noticed the rubber between the sole and the nubuck has started coming away from the boot. In dif places but on both boots. I was thinking of getting some glue (one mt shop rep recommended shoe goo) and gluing the rubber sides back in, but 3 out 3 boot repairers told me the rubber would probably loosen again and that to do them properly the rubber really needed to be pressed. Just wondering about peoples' similar experiences, with Raichle boots or others. I've only done 3 hikes in these boots (this last was the longest) and this shouldn't be happening I'm sure. I've pretty much made up my mind to take them back rather than try fix them and risk screwing my warranty as well.

Hi Ben Yep, that happened on my both my pairs of Raichle Mt Trails - one's nubuck, the other full-grain leather. I sent the nubuck ones back to the vendor and they were repaired - haven't had a recurrence of the problem. Couldn't be bothered to send the XT pair back so squished superglue down and the rand's stuck back on reasonably well.

 |
Thanks Kate. Did they just glue them or do something more fancy do you think?

Sent mine back to snow and rock( sole coming away). Offered to repair them, but said that I had lost faith in the boots . So the people at snow and rock instantly offered me a refund. EXCELLENT customer service From S&R. Thanks very much.

No probs with mine. Comfortable boots. Nuff said.

Sole started to come away from mine at about 800miles use - nice folk at Tiso replaced them - current pair at about 900miles - still fine. Brilliant boot - comfortable, tough. Course they've now been revamped with a new model, different sole. Nice of someone to resurrect this thread, just to read ptc's opinions on his solid, hefty boots
