Getting rid of the squeak!
Anyone got a good solution to get rid of the irritating squeak from the Bioflex?

Ahh I have had enough... its a fantastic rucksac for performance and comfort... but that damm squeak is driving me (and my companions) mad!

Have tried various things to stop it but with no luck... anyone got a solution that works?

The noise seems to me (the wearer) seems to be coming from the neck area of the Bioflex system. However my companions seem to think that its actually coming from around the kidney area.

I have tried vasoline but this only last for 10 mins before the squeak comes back again.

Have sent a query to Berghaus and will post here if I get a reply.. but in the mean time any clues anyone?

Thanks

ChRiS

Don't blame the rucksack....might be you so cod liver oil might help those joints!

Buy an Osprey?
:-)

I once walked with a person who was using a Bioflex, and that one was also making a terrible squeaking noise. It was difficult to locate.

Irene already on the cod liver oil... though thats just for my knees (and I know I'd recognise the sound of them ... thats more of a cracking sound!)

definetley coming from the pac :0)

Was on the hill last weekend and my mate had one of these - wasn't too bad for the first hour but then the squeaking started.

By the end of the day he was prepared to try anything.

In the end he opted for WD40, which sorted it for a 15k walk on the sunday, but I don't know what the long term effect is and wouldn't advise it until you hear back from berghaus.

We determined the squeaking was coming from the hip area too - great bag though.

i have had this problem,i think it comes from the pivot area, sorted mine with some teflon lube(halfords) same stuff i use on my climbing cams, needs applying before every trip.

Peewiglet: Nice try but after 3 days away my Aether 70 also squeaks!!!!

I think it's from where the aluminium poles are held in the fabric just by the neck.

The new MHW pack will sound like a combined harvester then.

Weighs and costs about the same as a combine harvester too...

Oooh I have a Vaude daypack with the same problem - it seems to come from the adjustable back thing round the holes where the shoulder straps come through the back mesh panel and it's blooming irritating! So I'd be keen to hear suggestions too.

Squeaky Osprey, eh? I'm sorry to hear it. Have you thought of sending a message to Dan who posts on here? A squeaking pack would drive me bananas! It shouldn't be doing that...

Same rucksack, same squeak. It was driving me mad. Same idea - vaseline - same result: it stopped for about 10 minutes! The noise is absoloutely intolerable so I took the thing back to my local shop. They have replaced the rucksack for me (I guess they will be sending it back to Berghaus), but I have not taken my new one out on the road yet. However, the shop guy said vaseline is a bad idea. He recommended talcum powder if the problem re-occurs. Let us all know if you get an official answer from Berghaus.

Beej my Vaude Triset 35 bag does the same thing. Combined with the squeak from one of my Raichle boots I often sound like a one man band.

I bought a Berghaus C71 series, the base model in the Bioflex range. It squeaked appallingly for the one overnight trip I used it for and I returned it straight after for a refund on the grounds that it was faulty.

Any one found a cure for this yet?

Still no cure... not heard anything back from Berghaus yet either (great service from them!)

Rucksacks never used to squeak... my old Karrimoor (eyes glaze over) had the od rustle but that was it.

Next time (and that might soon!) its simple and light for me.. none of this high tech nonsense (even if it does do what its says on the tin)!

ahh ive got an old karrimor one that im thinking of replacing with a berghaus one. Berghaus usually responded to emails ive sent them although im sure there is a different company involved now somewhere along the lines.

I have some news. I took my replacement bioflex out 3 weeks ago for 4 days of hiking. It started squeaking so I took it back (again) to the shop last weekend. They said they would contact their Berghaus rep. and get back to me. Seeing the responses above prompted me, so I just gave the shop a call. Apparently Berghaus know there is an issue and I have been told I can return the bag again for an exchange / refund. Alternatively, I was told that if I wanted to try it, candle wax will fix the problem. Hmmmm.

hmmm

other than the squeak whats the pack like? i really do fancy one as i just thought i was so comfy!

Other than the squeak it is a fine rucksack. The rotating back thing does exactly that. Mind you I think it is a bit like some of the gadgets and gizmos they put on cars nowadays. Nice to have, but not really necessary. Like Chris I used to have a simple old karrimoor. It was a fine rucksack as well, till it wore out.
