For what it's worth I use a Medium Featherlite smock over a M micro fleece with no problems. The fit is snug and comfortable. I'd be worried if the smock was a large on me: it would be too loose and flappy. I use it for walking and climbing.

I'm usually an XL and the Featherlite in that size is perfect for me, including use over a microfleece.

I have a featherlite smock size Large - the label says is is for a 42 inch chest. I have just measured it for you - this is the best indicator, imho. Across the chest the measurement is 23 inches seam to seam - a generous 46 inches. And it is wider into the armpits!

Now, if someone that owns an XL could supply the relevant measurement, you will be in business! Great top, btw....

I am definiteley an XL (43" Chest) and the featherlite XL in that size is a perfect fit, with room to spare for a fleece etc. Bear in mind that, with it being windproof, it will flap around in the wind if it's too baggy...

Rekindling this thread,

I recently bought a delightful mango coloured Montane Featherlight Smock, size L, from TKMaxx...

has something changed drastically in their cut? I have had a few windproof jackets used for running, rowing and biking and wanted something a bit larger to go over a thicker fleece. So I tried the featherlight out in my usual running kit during a cold rainy morning. And while the shoulders and arms are pretty good, the body seems to be massive. I am a solid 83kg / 182 cm (13 stone, 5 ft 11/ 33 waist) and I am usually a little tight in a medium. But this thing just billows around me like parachute when I start running in it as well as making a heck of a noise.

And then there's the zip - which sticks (as mentioned by others in the reviews section). Plus the fabric pull on the zip manages to slap me in the mouth with every stride.

There's plenty to like in this garment - very water repellant DWR, nice long sleeves with enough elasticity to go up over the elbows. But folk in the reviews section just rave about how good it is.

Perhaps I just struck lucky with the Helly Hansen Motive jackets I have used to date, but I think there's a lot of work to be done to turn the Featherlight into  the 9/10 garment that others seem to think it is.
