well.. I don't have a camelbak.. so don't know what it can or can't be put under.. ( strain) but if Freezing it hasn't worked, oil hasn't worked, Rubber gloves, pliers and a vice can't do the job.. then maybe you need to think in the other Direction..

ok.. sounds daft.. I'm a joiner and we use this method to remove all sorts of 'stuck' screw type thingy's.. get something hard (like a hammer) and try tapping the cap..
while you turn it..

if that doesn't work.. then try going the opposite way from Freezing it.. yes things get smaller as they cool.. but if it's too cold then all the parts might shrink too much or the wrong part shrinks more than you want.. so try boiling it.. don't get the bits to shrink and harden.. get them to expand and be more flexible..

then when it's open.. (assuming this works)follow the previous sugestion and apply some sort of lubricant to the screw section of the lid.. a Dry lub is normally better for items with moisture. though make sure it has no nasty flavours to contaminate your water..

hope it helps

Oh.. forgot to mention.. when using the hammer method.. tighten the cap before you loosen it.. things that atr too tight to undo will normally tighten a little more.. this breaks the seal and allowes you to then loosen it easier ;)

now don't tell anyone.. IT'S A TRADE SECRET!!!

Thanks all, I'm afraid nothing is working. The plastic isn't really strong enough for much hammering as it just chips. I'm thinking it might be some sort of pressure problem keeping the lid from being moved??

Did someone superglue the lid in place as an April Fool's Joke???

I have a hacksaw.

You are trying to turn it the correct way???

<ducks!>

Reading this thread has just made me realise that my camelbak has been sat, half full (or is that half empty?) of water since.......

wait for it.....

Get an Octopus!

It is said that Army engineers only need 2 tools, a hammer and a condom. If the hammer doesn't fix it, then f*** it!

In that vein, get a plumbers wrench. Open it up wide and put the 2 gripper ends vertically into the depression in the screw cap, either side of the central bit, where your finger and thumb would go (a bit like that picture with the pens earlier). Put the whole thing on the floor and kneel on it. Now take a hammer and hit the wrench on the side of one of the grippers to try and twizzle the lid open.

Or....

cool the lid while heating the rest of it. Prepare some cold water, almost ready to freeze. Dunk the whole think in hot water for a bit. Then take it out, get all the hot water off the cap. Pour cold water into depressions in the cap. Leave for a few minutes for cap to cool and shrink, then have another go.

Or....

Baileys is quite good for getting girls' knickers to slip off, maybe that will work? If not, cheer yourself up by using the remaining Bailey's for its intended purpose :-)

Can you get a sharp knife in between the joints to prize it poen slightly to let a bit of air out, as it's probably the vacume keeping it closed so tightly.

What vacuum? Any vacuum could easily be released by opening the bite valve.

No worries, Wayne. Unless you're cogniscent with a Camelbak you won't realise What A Problem It Actually Is....

Alas Camelbak's and their annoying problems is not one of my chosen subjects jj......I'll stick to gardening
