Just found an interesting quote from the Hilleberg website re the Akto:

it was not designed for extreme above tree line use,

If as a 4 season tent, it is not recommended for use above the tree line, couldnt you argue that any 3 season tent used below tree line could be used in all seasons. You could even pitch a 2 season tent in a well sheltered spot and use it inwinter.

I am on brink of buying an Akto despite 400g penalty, but because of its features. (for me; good duy points, top ventilation)

I suppose it would be interesting to hear experiences of "winter" or harsh weather use of either tent. PLease

also from the Hilleberg website:

"the Akto has proven itself on extended polar expeditions, and so will stand up well to all conditions".

It would be really good if one of you TN LC chaps would show a picture of your tent in 50 knots of wind. It always seems to be a calm sunset when you get your tents out for some reason, why do you think that is?

Go on I dare you just one picture in a gale of wind.

I put that on the other thread - it is a shame we cannot merge narratives

That'll be this one <a href="http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.findmeatent.com/userphotos/1132338417.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.irishblogs.ie/search/findmeatent/&h=300&w=400&sz=15&hl=en&start=4&um=1&tbnid=dDCWVX1se3TlfM:&tbnh=93&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3DEXPED%2B%2BVELA%2BEXTREME...%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GZAZ%26sa%3DN">DCWVX1se3TlfM:http://www.findmeatent.com/userphotos/1132338417.jpg</a>

Diddy, the Exped Vela is a nice enough tent and one that I looked at a couple of years ago. The only real issue I had with it was the zipperless fly/porch arrangement - it appears useless when not either fully open or fully closed (I think the designer was trying to be a bit too clever and got it all wrong), I can't imagine cooking with the porch half open if you know what I mean?

I think both the Akto and the TNLC are better designed in this respect.

If you're looking to see one pitched, you might have better luck searching cycling stores.

Looks like a funky take on the Saunders tents (space packers?[ cue mr PC]).

Doesnt the Akto have 2 way zips for top venting, or is it just a top vent??
