Hi there Appreciate any input please?
I recently purchased a pair of Mendl Borneo boots and have been wearing them around the house. Although they are not really uncomfortable I have noticed however that I get 'pins and needles' in my little toes. When I purchase shoes they normally stretch after a while however the Borneos have a rubber edge around the side of the boot that seems to prevent this! Can anyone please recomended any boots suited for wide feet ? (Would be good to have a heads up before returning to the shop!)

I've got quite wide feet, & I've found that Raichle boots suit them pretty well.
My lighter summer boots are a size smaller than the winter ones, having said that, so it might be worth experimenting size-wise too! Different sock(s) can make quite a difference, as well.

Having been through this process trying to get something to suit wide feet recently, I can empathise. I suppose it depends too whether you need a really strong tough boot or whether something lighter will do the job. In my case I didn't need anything too heavy so I eventually found a pair of Trezeta Snowdon boots which suited me. They "give" a bit more than the Meindls. Other than that, try Scarpa Ranger or Raichle Scout. They nearly did it for me. The Meindl is a lovely boot, but just a little snug for me.

I've got wide feet and, like the others, I find that Raichle and Scarpa fit well.

Asolo do quite a few different models in wide fittings.

Scarpa SL BXX wide fit. Altberg make boots in a full range of 5 width fittings. I've just purchased their Cairngorm boot It's a cracker.

.jpg) Good point, it is a struggle with larger feet and I have the same problem as I found that a pair of Lowa's fit me fine where as a pair of Keens hurt like hell.

I had the same problem late last year. Tried all makes even ordered Scarpa SL BXX, still not wide enough. In the end I went to Alt-Berg at Richmond and had a pair made with diferent width fitting for each foot at no extra cost. Meindel do a wide fitting boot called Tibet, hope this helps.

Montrail boots are wide and have an even wider fit available. I find that Keens are nice and wide at the front with a tighter heel.

This British company make their boots in Richmond, North Yorkshire. Good fitting service & wide sizes - even made to measure if you want to splash out! http://www.altberg.co.uk/
Edit: PM4 & Gez beat me to it - but theres the link anyway!

Raichle are a tad wider than Meindl, but the best fit for me is Keen, and I doubt I'll be buying much else, but try a few different brands and see what fits you.

Have you tried Salomon. I'm on my 2nd pair now, they're wider than any others I've found incl. raichle, Meindl.

I have had similar problems over the years with boots, trainers and even everyday shoes.Generally I go for one to one and a half sizes larger for trainers and shoes but with walking boots I have found that those with rands right round the sole give the most problems. My current boots Salomon Adv Trek 7's which have a short rand and a wider fitting, but, they've stopped making them. I'm now look at Keen Targhee 2 walking shoes. I have also tried Rachle boots and shoes and they seem to be Ok, I just need to get the money togther and make my mind up.

Hi - Spending three figures on blister boxes that are too tight is not good for moral, particularly if you are halfway up Haystacks and suffering the torments of the damned before you face up to it. Been there, done it, felt stupid........I did the Coast To Coast during the last two weeks of September last year, mostly in pouring rain. My extra wide blister-prone feet were clad in Scarpa Ranger GTX XCR Boots. I finished on schedule, only had a single blister and didnt get my feet wet once despite climbing near vertical waterfalls purporting to be public footpaths etc. If I remember correctly they are available in half sizes from size 10 up and they are wide enough to accomodate an extra wide foot in a three season walking sock.....Scarpa claim they dont need breaking in, but in reality you have to grit your teeth and step it our for a couple of weekends to get them sorted for a long trip. Thats my experience. I will be buying Scarpa again.

It seems there is a general consensus about some manufacturers making 'wider' boots/shoes, but from reading this thread and my own experience there is no substitiute to trying on a range of footwear. My problem is width across the toes, where most footwear is too narrow and causes a lot of pain through development of corns. Meindl Borneos are fine but too wide elsewhere, Scarpa SLXX are (just) ok but still a little too narrow, and some Salomon shoes (Extend, XA Pro 3D) are just about OK. The Raichle boots I have tried have been painfully narrow. However, I have found Keen Targhees are almost a perfect fit in this respect (the broad square toe box makes all the difference for me), so well worth a look if you have the same problem. It has only taken about 15 years to make this breakthrough...

I have wide feet and I recently bought a pair of Targhees. Whilst I like the width of the toe box, the "toe protector" seems to push down a bit on my big toe and I find the heel a bit loose. Having said that I'm very pleased with them so far, although the furthest I've walked in them is about 6 miles on the flat.

I've been looking around recently and wide boots haven't got any easier to find. I used to use Karrimor KSBs but the quality has gone downhill so I'm having to search about. Fortunately I have an ancient pair of Scarpa boots on the BXX last, these are only just wide enough but they'll do for now. For a lightweight pair of boots Meindl Matrei are nicely wide and also seem to be well made, slightly short though so I think a half size bigger than your normal shoe size with light to medium socks would be needed. They're also available in womens sizes. If you don't mind the military look the wide fitting version of the Lowa Mountain GTX army style boot is quite widely available from military and police suppliers. Annoyingly Lowa do several of their more normal boots in wide lasts but I can't find ant stockists except US websites.

I agree with Keen targhee mids, though be careful the sizing is a bit small, so go up a notch. as I got some on ebay in my size. but a bit tight due to sizing...that'll learn me......(or teach me even)

I'll respond despite this being a rather old thread There was a discussion elsewhere on the forum about 'wide' boots, and the consensus was that 'wide' is far too vague a term. It's a question of where the boot is wide, how much volume there is, etc. The shape of the boot has to be right. As an example, I find the Keen shoes/boots to be be very narrow. Yes, they have a wide toe box, but they narrow very rapidly as you go back towards the mid foot and heel. the only ones that fit me are the Meindl Comfort Fit range such as the Matrei mentioned above.
