I have Vango Hydra and a RED Spirit 200 Lite .. that was RED tent to those that missed it...
For campsites i always use the hydra and most of the time I only ever peg out the end guys and the two middle ones.. not moved on me yet. The RED tent has been pitch 2000ft asl and not moved, got it cheap in sale and I gather this yrs version is better than the one i got last.

I have to say that one of the things I really did like about my Vango 200 Spirit TBS was that is didn't move at all. My semi geo TN Voyager that I replaced it with really creaks in high winds compared to the Vango. That said, I still prefer the voyager

Ray - I thought he was joking too.

I feel really guilty and embarrased now. Especially after asking for advice.
Still, hard men these backpackers.

i just thought he had a bright tent fetish!
Show/hide user stats
Maybe it is a fetish as well.
Don't feel bad guys, and yes I admit a slight fetish too.

More importantly I love p1551n6 of the OM green tent brigade with my rainbow tent collection, and better still i have a good reason why aswell!!!!!!!!

But the most important factor is this, The best tents in the world that are designed to deal with high altitude Jet stream storms are not made as standard with a green flysheet they are made with yellow or red ones so you can find it again.

Is that finding it after the jet stream has finished with it?

No I don;t own a green tent before you ask.
Vango is one of the worlds best tent makes, for value for money there are second to none in my opinion. I've had many Vanog tents and spent last night in our Vango Equinox 350 which is fantastic and I got for half price o the RRP. There backpacking tents like the Spirit range are fantastic and so well built.

On a comment made earlier in this thread...

"It's an annoying and unavoidable fact that backpacking gear is VERY expensive partly because it's specialist, partly because quality gear uses very high quality and expensive materials and also because a lot of it is marketed for the yuppies of this world who can easily shrug off a few hundred pounds here or there"

This comment is a bit strange? I spend a lot of money on my backpacking gear but do not consider myself a yuppy, by a mile. The quote "you get what you pay for" is true when it comes to outdoor gear, especially when it comes to going wild camping or backpacking in a country where overnight weather can change from still clear warm weather to gale force winds and heavy rain cold weather.

Good outdoor gear and the ability to use it can save your life and completely change your outdoor experience so don't feel bad about spending money for good kit!

Thanks Jamie - I have searched through all available threads and it does seem that Vango do represent vaule for money, as I'm sure lots of others do. I am new to this and like most people have limited resources to allocate.
My purchasing philosophy has always been 'buy the very best you can afford but first think about how you are going to use it'

I have a micro 100 and 200 ( alas no longer made), both cost me less than £100 each, within the last few years, and give excellent performance. £:£ far less wrong with them than my Hilleberg Nallo.

Hi, i must say this thread has also been very useful for me and i have just purchased myself a Vango Spirit, in red for £100, last yrs model mind but still brand new ner used! shall have to see how it fairs in a few weeks!

Well done Dinky, nice to see that we embrace the community spirit or is that the Vango Spirit - you've done better than me - and it was my thread. Still, I think I'm sorted now, just need to get permission from the boss ;0)

lol good stuff! you taking the plunge on a vango too then?
Show/hide user stats
I think so, too many to choose from - hence the post.
I think I prefer the spirit but may have to opt for the Tempest (based on price)

Where did yours come from?

lol yeh the guy who i brought it off has a few apparently so he might be putting up more in the future. Ive been looking at getting myself a tent for quite a while now and it seems to have always been a TN voyager or a vango, being a student the vango was always bound to win! :o)

I'm into this all over again - did a bit in the early 80's.
I've got to go cheap because I have no money - I have a daughter who starts uni in October and guess who will end up financing it?
Show/hide user stats
lol yup, good old parents, i started uni in sept last year and im the 5th to have gone! o btw the guy has another spirit that he will put on for the same price (£100+£8-50p) if your interested? I hope this doesnt get taken as advertising, i just tryin to help someone out! lol, let me kno!

:o)
