Quote of the day
Blake, William (1757–1827)
English poet, painter, engraver, and mystic
"Exuberance is beauty."

I do often find it really quite inspirational reading you lot on here talking about your latest bit of beloved new backpacking kit, or obvious love for a certain bit of outdoors gear; as you eagerly await its arrival from the store before rushing enthusiastically to try it out on the hill! Overflowing with fabulous eager enjoyment you all too often are, full of Joyful enthusiasm for life in general and for the great outdoors especially. I think that is great! Your exuberance inspires me greatly every day fellow OM forum people, so thank you.

New hiking boots ordered this morning from Outdoor Kit, checked the delivery times this afternoon, panicked when i realised it was 3-4 days (now i have ordered them i need them RIGHT NOW!!!!) and not the 1-2 days i had hoped for. One phone call to the helpful people over there and they have said Wednesday at the latest panick over, brand spanking new (not really needed) boots on the way.

are they here yet.....?

The only gear I don't own is my own Mountain and once I got that I will be sorted (plus heaps of barbwire to keep you lot out).

It will be gated and will require you to use your Biometric ID cards for entry (they have to be used for something).

I so love new kit, he says as the postman drops his new pipedream 400 through the letterbox.

Joy, it has three different bags to play with.

The fun has not ended, two minutes later his mate arrives with a package of brightly coloured exped drybags.

Now to find hiding places for these goodies

Hey Blackbird - smart move spending money before wedding! I couldn't find your honeymoon thread, but I came across these guys who organise some fantastic running/cycling events in Scotland, including a route over the Bealach na Ba that I mentioned on your honeymoon thread - I thought the routes and maps might interest you.

Heres how to avoid that guilty 'I know its a lot of money and I dont need a new jacket but I'll really try to sell my old one dear, I'll try really hard, pleeeease can I buy a new one now' scenario: the solution is simple, just 2 words:

BARBED WIRE!, It works wonders, if you pretend you are really upset to have wrecked your 'favorite' jacket your other half may even buy you a new one out of sympathy

Thats brilliant Ben, do you know if that will work when it comes to over trousers? I want some new ones but i am afriad.....

Trouser are even easier, you just have to vault the barbed wire fence, take care though!

Can't beat pouring over catalogues and making lists of pieces of kit that you would like(although not necessarily need) and then starting the whole process over again when a new catalogue comes out. Must have dozens of lists around the house by now.  At least it keeps me of the streets (when I'm not on the hills that is).

Tim, know what you mean on delivery times. But don't tell me about 3-4 days!

I ordered my new Patagonia Ready Mix Jacket on Friday 27 June, which the shop dispatched the same day by DHL. But they won't deliver to Belgium where I live, so I got it sent to my mum in UK. But she managed to miss two attempted deliveries. So by the time I finally called the shop to find out where it was, and my mum called DHL the new delivery date is 9 July... to my mum, which means with the weekend I am looking at it getting to me on 14 July at the earliest... aaaargh. Very frustrating, especially when I have had stuff off other UK websites straight to my door in two days.

DHL! Bl..dy DHL! try to send anything by DHL and you get a nazi style interrogation about the contents of the parcel, and they're way more expensive than everyone else, and they're slow, and they act like they're doing you a huge favour by actually delivering anything, rant rant rant!

What the BBC is to Paddy DHL is to me.
