And anyone know where one can go and try them on? Preferably not too far from Cardiff!

if it's any consolation kate, their sizes are "proper" uk sizes. i've ordered with confidence in the past and they all fit. will see if today's order fits. way hey, the last one in my size. oh! just noticed you've changed your name....

It's ok, Parky, I'll be back to 'normal' after wednesday - which is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Main trouble is with orthotics I really need to try the fit - might be 7 or 7.5 in mens or ladies for me!!!
They are thin on the ground. All stockists I called in the NE / NW didn't have them, but could get them. I have ordered a pair from my local retailer at full whack so I can have a good try on.

lol kate. pirate day...would anyone at my workplace notice any difference.... forgot about the orthotics...

A cautionary tale regarding the fit of the Roclite 390s.... I've happily used Inov-8s, both Terrocs and Roclite 315s, for a couple of years now, taking a UK 9 (Eur 43) in both. So when one of the two pairs of 390s Wiggle actually had in stock last week was UK 9 I took a chance and ordered them online, expecting a high chance of a good fit. Anyway they arrived a couple of days ago, and a lovely, light boot they are too, BUT they were definitely a larger fit than either of my other pairs of Inov-8s: longer (I put them against my Roclite 315s), wider at the front, and probably wider at the heel too. For a couple of evenings I tried them in the house with combinations of the original insoles, blue Superfeet, green Superfeet, volume reducers, Smartwool socks ranging from the Adrenalines right through to the Expedition thickness ones - but today I've given up and sent them back Shame. I'll probably see if I can try a UK 8&1/2 at some point once they become more widely available in the shops, but in the meantime it's back to the Salomon Elios Mid XCRs for my lightweight boot... One other point - the lacing at the top of the ankle seems designed (and came threaded) to be done the same way as in their trail running shoes, with the top two eyelets designed for the lace to form a loop at one side and then re-thread through the opposite side (if you've got any Inov-8s you'll probably understand what I mean). Anyway, whereas I find this an excellent lacing method on the shoes, it seemed really rather uncomfortable and restrictive on the boot - has anyone else found this, or discovered a better way to tie them?
Matt, you're spot on there. I wear mine with a thicker sock and they're okay. I was wondering if it was slightly looser to allow a bigger sock. or is that presuming too much incisive insight on the part of the manufacturer? The lacing lasted about 3 miles before I changed it to standard "crossed over up to the top" lacing. It works better and doesn't want to slice my foot off. I'm still undecided about them. I definitely prefer, well everything else I have at the moment.
yep, they're definitely a little bigger but as ptc says, they're probably designed for a thicker sock. the lacing as they came lasted until i could take them off from the initial try on. i moved the lace lock down to the next loop/eyelet but taking the lace from the loop to the eyelet on the same side (the reverse way round to the shoe lock which goes through the top eye and back down to the second eye) and then across to loop through the lace on the same arrangement on the other side before coming back through the top eyelet. it's the standard lace lock/tensioner i use on all boots as this enables the area around the ankle to be firmly locked into the heel without affecting the tension anywhere else i.e. a looseish tension about the forefoot, a firm lock to fix the heel followed by however i want the top.

Cheers Parky, I follow what you mean - when I get to try the smaller size I'll give that a go. They seemed more than a little bigger to me - compared to the Roclite 315s I increased things by 2 thicknesses in the Smartwool sock range, thicker Superfeet and a volume adjuster but still felt there was too much movement (more in the forefoot than the heel by the end) to be confident of lasting comfort on the hill.

So, if I go down half a size, experiment with socks and re-do the lacing, they might just fit? I have to say, this is seriously messing with my plans for a lighter winter boot now that the Makalu's have relegated to Deep Sea Diving only duties.

Picked up a pair of the 390's from Lakes Runner last week. My 315's are 8.5, but I've always worn SF green and boot socks in these. Tried an 8 and a 9 on (they didn't have an 8.5 in stock) and they were noticeably wrong for me with the same setup. They ordered me an 8.5 and I picked them up a couple of days later, definitely the right size, but I would agree that the fit is a little more generous than the 315's. Also, have to agree that the usual inov8 lacelock doesn't work, but I haven't yet worked out an alternative, will have to try that one of yours Parky. I think the extra eyes mean the lacelock just doesn't tighten the laces across the bridge of the foot (little too much lateral movement for me here) and think I'll try tightening the laces and tie a knot in them here, so I can tension the ankle independently. Otherwise really happy with them so far though and will probably use these until Spring when the 315's come back into service.

Interesting Richard, thanks for another view of them.
Is Lakes Runner what used to be Rock & Run?
 Aye, I think so Matt.

Just to go off topic (slightly) - I've got some of the goretex lined roclite shoes, and I like them a lot, but... They're developing a crease diagonally aacross the toecap, will that bugger up the goretex liner?
Probably eventually it will, Gore liners don't like acute bending and flexing. I widnae worry though, the sole will wear out first
That sounds like an ironic vote of 'no confidence' in the longevity of inov8 shoes, ptc*! How did the Namches fare?
I'm on my second pair of Namches The first ones are still serviceable though, the soles are pretty worn and some of the mesh is burst and they smell really bad. But fine othewise and so comfortable Still my favourite ever footwear. I'm not upset by disintegrating footwear. You have to pay for the flexability and performance somehow. But I'd be happier if it wasn't quite such an envinonmental issue. Leather and bamboo mesh trail shoes please.

They did look good, but I never found any to try on, and the other montrails I did try, weren't all that well fitted for my feet. In the end, I got some salomon Elios mids as my lightweight boots, no doubt spurred on by the fact that there was twenty quid of the RRP! I must admit I'm quite pleased with them.
