A walk from Kirkby Lonsdale….

It was a glorious morning as we set off from home but as soon as we got to the promenade at Morecambe we could see that once again the misty clag was still about and the views across the bay were no-existent. Hoping that it was a coastal thing we decided to carry on towards the Lakes and see if it would clear. However by the time we reached Sizergh Castle we had lost the sun and it was a miserable looking day. It did however look brighter to the east so we headed that way along the A590 and A65 to Kirkby Lonsdale for this short walk.
Pictures from the walk are now available to view on the webpage for those wishing to do so.

Dave

I was by myself today and with not much time available as I wanted to be back in time for the Burnley v Leeds match on the TV. I'm not a supporter of either side but I do like to see the occasional live match on the box. I was away straight after breakfast and once again the misty haze was still in attendance. I was soon parked up at Crag Foot for this easy walk and just made it back home in time for the match.

South Cumbria….
My 150th website walk of 2011. I would have preferred a visit to the Lakes for this walk but it wasn’t the clearest of days and so didn’t really warrant doing the extra driving.
Holme Park Fell and Farleton Knott are delightful walking areas especially if like me you are lovers of limestone. The area is probably best visited in late Spring or early Summer but makes a pleasant walk at any time of year.
Pictures from the walk are now available to view on the webpage for those wishing to do so.

Dave

It had been almost 3 weeks since I had had a walk. On our last walk up Farleton Knott I got a bit of a chill which coupled with my low immune system knocked me back for a few days and then the colder weather arrived. The cold weather leaves me in a Catch 22 position until my system settles down. If I go out in the cold it seems to make my lung problems worse yet if I don't exercise I feel as though the airways are narrowing and that makes breathing difficult. I had also been having a few chest pains and didn't want to do too much until I had seen my specialist at the Lancaster Infirmary. Anyway by now I wanted to see how I managed on a short simple walk so it was off to Arnside we went for this walk up the Knott.
Pictures from the walk are now available to view on the website for those wishing to do so.

Dave

The only redeeming feature of these mid-December days is that sunrise doesn't occur until around 08:30hrs. Now even I can just about manage to get myself moving by then so with what appeared at first to be a glorious morning I set off for this short local walk. There were no problems with tidal issues as high water wasn't until around 13:00hrs and I would be back well before then.
Pictures from this walk are now available to view on the website and at the end of the report there is a link to the website of the “Friends of Sunderland Point” which whilst still in development offers some interesting facts and history.

Not a fell walk by any stretch of the imagination although they were in view across the bay, today’s offering comes from a walk along a section of the promenade at Morecambe which in places looked more like the Sahara than a holidaymakers perambulation.

Our final walk of 2011 and despite me still not feeling right we were persuaded out by the arrival of a glorious sunny day.
One look across the bay at Morecambe to the snow capped fells of Lakeland made me think of this short easy walk and we weren’t disappointed with fantastic views all around.
Pictures from the day are now available to view on the website for those wishing to do so.

We have had a splendid Christmas and New Year. Both were spent with all the family around us and Edith has had no cooking to do at all. However the weather as been poor. After the snow, came what seemed like endless days of wet or wild weather neither of which now appeal to me. The festive season as also taken its toll, too much food, chocolates and an odd drink or two coupled with weeks of inactivity have led to the elasticated waistband on my trousers being stretched to the limit. It wasn't the best of mornings but I needed to do a little something and this walk meant only a 10 minute drive. The biggest surprise of the walk was the daffodils we saw in flower along the banks of the Lancaster Canal.

After days of wind and rain an opportunity arrived to get a short walk in. We had intended going to the Central Lakes but the views across the bay didn’t look to promising so we settled for this walk nearer home.

Having been kept in most of the day awaiting the presence of a plumber it was 14:30hrs before we were finally clear to go for a walk.
With sunset just after 16:15hrs our options were limited but as always this short but delightful walk nearby came to the rescue.
A lovely late afternoon walk under blue skies finished off with a brilliant sunset made for a fine close to the day.
Pictures from the walk are now available to view on the website for those wishing to do so.

I had felt OK after our short walk around Sunderland Point a couple of days earlier so with a glorious morning I wanted to try something a little more testing. In addition to my long-term breathing problems I have been bothered for a while with some low back pain and some neck pain both probably arthritic in nature. Neither stops me from walking but when at there worst they take a lot of the pleasure away. We decided on this walk as it gave me a number of options for cutting it short if necessary. Happily the pain stayed manageable until we were almost back.

I had finished yesterdays walk with a bit of pain in my neck but overnight it seemed to have settled down a bit. The day was again fine & sunny although colder so after breakfast and with a couple of high strength Co-Codamol inside me we made our way to the South Lakes for this short walk. I had hoped to add Brant Fell onto the walk but decided against it when my neck again started playing up and we settled for a visit to Fell Foot Park on the way home instead.
Pictures from this walk, done under clear blue skies with fantastic views to all quarters are now available to view on the website for those wishing to do so.

Dave

A cold and crispy Sunday morning had us making the short drive to Beetham in South Cumbria for this walk. We were hoping to see the deer in Dallam Park and fortunately were not disappointed as I managed to get a number of fairly close up Pictures. The walk was finished with a visit to the tea-room above the shop/post office in Beetham for a cuppa and some hot soup. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

The colder weather had caught me out again on yesterdays walk and once again my breathing was more difficult. Edith didn't want me to go for a walk at all but after reassuring her that it would only be a very easy valley walk she gave way and shortly after breakfast we were on our way to Elterwater.
The day started fine & bright and stayed that way apart from one short period. Pictures from the walk are now available to view on the website for those wishing to do so.

Today’s offering comes from a walk from the door down to the shore at Half Moon Bay to then take a path following the shore over the site of the old Heysham Head and thence to the Heysham Barrows to visit the Stone Graves and St Patrick’s Chapel.
After a walk through Chapel Woods I then visited St Peter’s Church overlooking the bay before returning through Heysham Village to Half Moon Bay.
Pictures from the walk are now available to view on the webpage for those wishing to do so.

Today’s webpage offering comes from a visit to Arnside and then for a short walk around Leighton Moss when I wasn’t feeling well enough for a proper walk but was fed up of being stuck in the house.
Pictures from our visits are now on the website for those wishing to view.

Dave

I was feeling a little better today and after being stuck in the house all the morning feeling a little sorry for myself I decided around 1300hrs to have a walk down to Heysham Harbour. I left the car at our son's house who lives nearby and walked down to gain the sea wall near Red Nab. I then walked along the sea wall which follows the perimeter fence of Heysham 2 Power Station to the South Roundhead of the harbour to wait for the Isle of Man ferry to sail. The walk itself was only around 3 miles in length and I have put the album in the "Local Pictures" as it seems more relevant.
Pictures from my short sortie are now available to view on the webpage for those wishing to do so.

Dave
