We can fool OMs software into cutting Windy's page load time from 14-15 secs. to 1-2 by becoming what it thinks is a new thread.  It won't be, of course, it'll still be Windy.  The 'old' part of Windy will still be there and fully readable for archive purposes.  When we voted on whether to do this there were 7 in favour plus 2 don't minds plus 3 "see if the techies can fix it first"s (they won't in the foreseeable future) and only three against.  

The main argument from the three was that we would be closing Windy and going to a new thread.  We wouldn't - we'd just be fooling OM's software. The 'closing' of Windy would merely be to prevent what happened with the Windy Pub thread - some used the new one while others stuck with the old, which is guaranteed to sabotage the new.  Apart from that, what difference would 'closing' really make? None - everything back to page 1 could still be accessed.  Jon of OM is willing to do this as soon as we formally ask him to.   

Of those against, G doesn't want change for sentimental reasons - I can respect that.  Milly hasn't explained, but then she's been busy arranging a meet.  Ed has come out with a series of objections and moves on to another when each is answered.  Frankly, I don't think he means any of them, he's just playing Ed games.  

All that remains to be done is decide on the title for the new part then get Jon to make it happen.  My suggestion for the title would be either "Fossil Bluff's Windy Thread" or exactly the same as this thread with the words "by Fossil Bluff" added.  Who should start the new part and get their name up as author? The only two from the first page still regulars here are Kate and Diddy, with Mick Dray at the top of page 2, so I think it should be one of these.  

I'm tired of being the only one going on about this and won't be taking any further part in either discussions or doing anything.  If no one else is willing to take it on we'll stay with 15 second delays.  Any offers?

I've no probs with what you suggest Frum. How about making the first post a link to the old thread and just keeping the title etc as is.
