The tempest 200 is a great tent, its a very strong tunnel for the price. The 2008 model looks a bit better than mine also. That guying arrangement in the pic on the link Cruxterman posted looks better than mine also mine has no gearloft. The Vivid blue with orange inner looks better than my green one also.

Hi Steven,

Did you ever get the tent and if so, any comments. I too am thinking of getting either the x1 or x2. I basically wanted a comfortable bivi (is there such a thing ?) but also a bit more room in case a 2ns person came along.

Can't complain at the price, and I've had the Coleman Phad x3 which I've been happy with but at 4kg is too heavy for solo. I also found it a tad cold with the large gaps between the fly and the ground. Until I compare this with another tent I can't rule out my synthetic bag though.

Thanks

Hi Nick

Did get the coleman Avior x2 tent. Must admit i have not used it yet as i have been in hospital. I did however test it in back garden. It was simple to put up and just enough room for two, must admit i am very impressed with it. I particulary like the 2 entrances, one at the front and a large one at the side. As i have said i have not tested it out on the mountains yet, but i am looking forward to it.I think it would make an excellent bivi.

I got one last year and have used it in spring summer and autumn.  It's excellent and fantastic value for money.  The only downside is that is a bit on the heavy side at 2.5kg but I've manged fine with it on my own on some big treks.  The first time I used it was on a 2 day trip in the Lakes where we camped at Sprinkling Tarn.  It hammered down with rain and blew a gale all night.  The tent remained steadfast and in the morning I was bone dry.  It's three times as cheap as some of the top end tents and I would strongly recommend it.  It's a shame Coleman don't get a lot of column space in the magazine reviews as I've seen a lot more top end tents fail drastically in pretty average conditions.

I've now got the Phad X3 (which I'll probably sell) for car camping and the Avior X2 for backpacking. I used the X2 a few weeks back on the Thames path / Ridgeway and I thought it was brilliant. Sub 2.5Kg, stable and very practical. I also like the idea of 2 doors but I didn't like the way the zips on the triangle door (big one) start at the pointy end of the tent meaning you have to crawl halfway in to get to them. I could sit up next to the smaller opening and cook quite happily and found the hanging hook/loop above your head very handy. I would write a review on this and more gear I recently aquired but I can't see how you add a product that isn't already listed, which is most of the Coleman Exponent range.

There is a lot being said about the Hillebergs and Terra Nova tents and I'm sure they are great but when you take into account the hard earned moola you have to part with, the Exponent range should have more coverage.

I use an Avior X2 as my main backpacking tent at moment,, bought it about 18mths ago and  used around twice a month since, (including a 6 day hike after xmas '08 in the snow etc.). So far has stood up to everything, including storm force winds, 45mph +. Just about enough room for two, as long as not to 'large/tall'.  At 2.5kgs can be said to be 'heavy' but for the price , compared to lighter/higher end tents I find it OK, unless your 'really'' into UL!! So far I have no complaints. h
