Funnily enough frum, many moons ago when I played the game, I was in the then Gwent Ambulance Service and in addition to playing for a town side, I played in the Ambulance team and we played other services in Sunday games for charity.
One Sunday we played the Gwent Police who had quite a tasty side. We were two short and were preparing to play minus one flanker and a wing. The New inn ladies team had been training and two of them volunteered to play for us, much to the amusment of the "macho" bobbies who took their game extremely seriously.
Their number 8, a huge British Police international, had run half the field, beating all into the mud, all he had to do was run through the slip of a girl who was playing as our full back, standing between him and a certain score.
In one of those moments when you don't want to watch, but just have to, I watched in horror, expecting to see her end up flat on her back, gasping for air, with muddy footprints running up her "lumpy bits!"
What we all saw however was a text book tackle, bringing the blue giant down with such force that he lost possession of the ball and knocked on!
She also scored one of our three tries too, and we lost by just one point against a Police side that had been runners up in the British Police championsjips that season!
It was irony personified when after the game we gave her "MAN" of the match!
