I have started having a go and managed to really do some good stuff so far, this is going to be very good, I just hope that OS don't suddenyl decide to charge for it.
I was playing around with it earlier and after figuring out the grid system which is extremely confusing at first and could really be explained easier by OS in my opinion, I managed to do a full route. I started with a simple one, this isn't live or how I'm going to actually use it but heres an example on this page ( you can make the embedded map any size you want aswell and when printed it does print the route out on the map )...

Thanks for the spreadsheet offer Dorian, may take you up on it just too see what you have done. I figured the grid thing out in the end. You just take a normal Grid Reference and add a figure on the front of both the easting and northings, that figure is calculated by how many squares of the british os grid come before physically on the grid map. For example above which is the Mam Tor Car Park in the Peak District which is actually SH 12293 83202, the way to get the grid ref that OS uses is to basically look at the OS British Grid map a copy of which is here on Wikipedia. To figure out the Eastings simply look on this map and see how many 100k boxes there are to the left of the SK box, this being 4 and the for the Northing see how many boxes are underneath the SK box, this being 3. Therefore you take the original figures of 12293 and 83202 and put these figures in front of them which makes 412293, 383202. Simple really but toook hours to figure out simply because of the lack of explanation on the web.
