i'm looking for a new pack about 20l ish. current favourites are the raid revo and the omm race 20l. the rr's weight looks too good to be true but i know they have a blatant lie on the weight of the 30l and it seems to have similar features to the omm. has anyone got this pack and is it any good?

I hear its 289grms so I'd stay well clear of it if I were you..

I'd assess it on carrying comfort when loaded rather than absolute weight.  Otherwise, why not use a medium sized carrier bag?  Very light, waterproof fabric...

You could try and find somewhere selling the GoLite Ion
The Deuter Speedlite range are good lightweight daysacks. I use the 15L as a summer daypack. I never thought i would say this, but a few hundred grams here or there doesn't really matter for a daysack. Comfort should be the first priority as the weight of a full daysack shouldn't be an issue.

I have the Raid Revo 20L, a top little pack for fast moving stuff, i use it when on my bike etc. Never weighed it though, not really felt the need as it is nice and comfy when loaded and on my back so i kind of forget it is there.

I am going to weigh it to satisfy my own curiosity as you have got me wondering, but as Peter says above comfort is the main thing.

heheh it does sometimes get like that with meseriously though, the 30l is more than twice its quoted weight- if the 20l follows the pattern, then the omm is a better bet- for 100g i could stick a little tarp in there.

have you been on the ikea thread yet! i do think comfort is important but i don't live near to any decent shops and so to try on i need to order off the internet and send back-i'd rather not waste postage on something that doesn't do what it says on the tin.

no way! the ion looks like a dyneema pillow case! seriously though, i am a fan of the golite stuff- i've got the jam for winter and longer trips, the dawn for weekenders but both of those are a bit big for a daysack or if i just want to chuck a bivi and a sleeping bag in for a quick overnighter. does anywhere stock it tho?

i've also had my eye on the innov8 20l, or the vaude ultralight rock. i want compression straps for day sack purposes and a waist strap is nice for a bit more weight.

288gms? Might as well do the sums properly and correct for latitude and altitude ..

I have one of these, just weighed it on the kitchen scales and its 460 gms. Worth noting its actually only a 17L

It is a good pack, It was only intended for summer use but I use it in preference to my larger pack whenever possible.

The hip pockets are useful. As is the front extendable pocket/mesh.

You should cut your hair, that'll save at least 100grms

doing a big dump usually helps- one pound in the colon=5pounds on the back.

Wiping yer bum thoroughly helps a bit more.

Trim yer nails, (toes and fingers), empty nasal cavities...

There's weight savings there!

Seriously though, I have a Revo, and I think it's a great pack for both running and walking. It can be cinched in really close to the body, so you hardly notice it's even there. And it's nice and snug, no bouncing around.

it does look good but

virtually all sites list it as 288 grams. when i looked at one of their 30l packs it had a big '380g' on the label. in the technical info it actually stales the weight at over 600 grams. i'm assuming the same goes for the 20. there have been a few comments on other threads about manufacturer's stated weight but surely this is out and out lying?! unless they claim that the numbers on the tag are just there for decoration!! and then calling it a 20 when it's actually a 17 aaargh! which makes the omm a better proposition?

You may not live near any, but if you're on a trip to the Lakes or the 'Gorms etc. you're quite likely to be going near a few, right before you use the sack in anger.  Comfort is the #1 importance for me, so I'll wait and get the right thing.

Just weighed my Raid Revo 20 at 550 gms.  Can't say the 'extra' weight worries me, as it's a briliant sack for running and lightweight summer walking.  Waist belt pockets are a real boon - just as on my Jirishanca, which is what I use for most walks now.

Yup, Eric and Phil O are right, just weighed mine as promised and it is around the 500g or so mark. Didin't think it was 20L either and my suspsions have been confirmed!

Can they really do this?, surely this is false advertising? I am looking at the Osprey Kestrel 28 medium, is it really 26L? does it really way 1.29kilos? Does it really have shoulder straps? I think i am going to go to a large supermarket and buy one of their "bags for life" for 50p, at least i know what i am getting.

Or the GoLite Ion . Go ON you know you want one, then you can tell us all about it . And if it`s crap you can still use it to get a good nights kip .
