Inov8 Roclite 390 GTX Boot

Has anyone used these super lightweight boots yet?  They seem to have garnered amazing reviews although hardly anyone stocks them down in my neck of the woods - Buckinghamshire.

I'd be grateful for any comments.

Thanks Metric and that's enough evidence to me that they are not what they claim.

I am still looking for a good lightweight boot though.  Ever heard of and used the Keen Targhee Mid II  anyone?

They claim to be Paragliding boots and I suspect they are absolutely great for that. They're not walking boots and are not supposed to be.

The problem is also the lack of stockists!  Bashing the internet for a few hours you soon realise how conservative the range of lightweight boot that are available to purchase.

I have also been given a recommendation for the Montrail Cirrus GTX - but no one seems to have it in stock either.

Dam!

I have a pair of Salomon elios boots which are pretty lightweight, but very comfy and nice and grippy on virtually everything but wet limestone. I'm more than happy with them, if that helps at all.

Very light, comfy and rather narrow, which suits me.  But they don't get a great review by Jon on this site.  However, this site reviewed the Inov8 390's very positively but members of the forum slagged them off badly.  It is hard to know what to do.

Well, not everyone slagged off the 390's. I'm perfectly happy with mine and they've become first choice footwear for Autumn/Spring and lower level Winter stuff (probably ok for more serious winter outings too, just that I haven't done so).

I'll go back to the 315's once it gets warmer/drier though and have to agree they are better than the 390's in pretty much all respects, except keeping the water out

I'd happily recommend the 390's though, particularly if you need a wide-ish fit. If you need a narrow fit though, they're probably not for you...

One thing I have noticed with the Elios boots, is that if I'm carrying a heavy load (ie backpacking, rather than a day sack) I have to be careful that I don't get a blister on my heel. As I say, it never occurs with a lighter load but the heavier weight must alter the shape of my feet or summat.

But next time I go backpacking, I'll be wearing my trusty inov8 318s...

By the way, someone at the Outdoors Show thrust an "Active" magazine in my hand and whilst browsing I noticed mention of an "Inov8 Roclite 370 GTX Para Extreme". Initially I though this was probably just a misprint and they meant 390, but then also saw this on the Inov8 site. So either a spooky coincidence or there may well be a new even lighter Inov8 boot on the way? No doubt someone in the know will come along and tell us what's really going on soon....

The 370's were mentioned in one of Podcast Bob's podcasts last autumn. It said then that they were expected to be released at some time this spring.

I'll also add my voice to the list of those who like the 390's. I can see that they may not give enough support to the side of your foot if you're, for example, contouring across a steep slope or on rough ground - and as always with boots, it's all in the fit: what suits one person may not suit another, and these are quite a wide fit. But I've found them good and comfortable for my predominantly on-path walking, and refreshingly light.

As far as I know, The Roclite 370 is just the non Gore-tex version of the Roclite 390.

Mick W can you really go backpacking in Inov8 318's? Aren't they a running shoe?

How tough a terrain have you been over in them?

Yep, that's what I heard. Non-GTX version of 390.
