Maybe I've misunderstood the geometry but could it not be like this:
Aha! nice picture. Yes; extending the outer support fold would block the holes; of course...
I guess I'm reluctant to extend the outer fold for two reasons: i) it's not needed for anything else (dead weight)... ii) it would significantly increase the diameter of the Strata, making it even more difficult to pack. That's my excuse for why my brain didn't come up with the idea...
LOL Maybe the holes in the cone could be concentrated nearer the top, wouldn't need to be such a big overlap then, have to make a new clone as well mind..... edit: "nice picture" thanks

Okay, here are some more pictures. First, the Strata for the Titan kettle/MyTiMug combo: Then, the first attempt at a Strata for the Titan kettle/mug combo. Note how deep it is: So, I then added two more folds in each side of the Strata, giving a 3-ring version: Here's a side view of the same: As I suspected, the three rings are actually very stable, and cannot be pressed into the opening. This is because of the combination of triangles and rings...

Impressive CP, do the extra folds make it harder to squeeze into the kettle?

Haven't tried with a foil version yet, and it behaves differently to paper. My three-fold paper version is also now a complete ring, with ends glued as paper doesn't hold its folds as well, so the handle opening does silly things... I suspect it would, though; that complete ring paper version is pretty sturdy. I pondered the possibility of making the Strata serve two purposes last night (inspired by the complete ring paper version). And that is to make the Strata serve as the lid for the bigger pan, as well as the support for the smaller pan. The lid from the smaller pan would fill the hole in the middle. There are many problems with this approach (fragility of lid, needing lids for both pans at the same time, perhaps), not least of which is the need for a handle opening in the real world, so there would be a big opening in the lid.

Having found some large foil roasting trays in the 99p Store, I'll be making a few Clones. Which prompted me to tweak the script, and figure out an improvement to the Flissure joint which should make it stronger. I've also removed the finger and mitre joints, as I think the tab method is best, and the options were making it difficult to maintain the code. I've also changed the design method to use a wall slope, rather than base ratio setting to determine the shape, as I ended up tweaking the base ratio to make the slope 5 anyway... The script also copes with multi-ring Strata add-ons, too, with nice, evenly stepped rings

Finally got around to making a Flissure for my Titan kettle, using the latest Flissure joint. And it packs away beautifully in the pan, and seems to support it very securely. Made using a large roasting tray from the 99p Store. Note that I hadn't punched the holes when these pictures were taken, as I was testing the joint and support.

After yet more tweaks to the generator script, I think I'm almost done with it. Maybe one last tweak to add the stepped handle opening. Anyway, here's the latest version; one for a tiny 400ml LifeVenture mug. I think this will be my 'hill brew' kit. The Flissure packs perfectly into the mug; for once, random sizes worked in my favour.

Hi all, Sweeper here. Anyone seen CP lately? I Pm'd him, but no reply as of yet. I'd love to get my hands on the revised version of the postscript file, specifically the updates for printing on US paper. I know I'm a little late to this party, but this potentially solves some problems for me. Thanks!

Indeed, they do, sir! I just have this nice roll of flashing, a quiet weekend (wife is busy) and time to play. I'll make my first attempt at the effort using the instructions I found over on hammockforums.net. Not nearly as elegant a solution, but it will at least give me a chance to mess around a bit.
 Sweeper,
Sorry, I'm out of email contact until Monday, and my PDA doesn't seem to let me use OM's messaging service (Flash, I think); there's no 'reply' box, only a 'send reply' button. I'll send the template as soon as I can.

Have a read of my comments about various youtube instructions on this thread; the commonly linked youtube video contains a simply corrected error in measuring the arcs.
If there are any of the Clone regulars who can send a recent template in the meantime, please feel free to contact Sweeper direct.

Thanks, CP, I'll go back and go through the threads in a more detail tonight. Sweeper

twiglegs, If you happen to catch this and would care to PM me and send me the .ps file, I would be eternally grateful. This is the only weekend I've got free before a 3 day hike in a couple of weeks, and I'd love to have the clone completed prior to stepping off. 'Tis a windy isle off of the coast of GA that I'll be trapsing around on... . I'll go ahead and make the youtube version with Capn's modifications in the morning for practice. Sweeper, signing off for the night.

Thanks, twiglegs, PM sent!

Awesome, you gents are great! I'm now starting to input my parameters, print the design, and then it's off the to the workshop for an afternoon of tinkering....can't wait! Sweeper

Ok, I've built a couple of templates now, and am now playing around with which stove/pot combo I like the best before I actually complete one. I understand the entire clone storage issue now much better - part of my problem is that I am such a gearhead that I have almost too many options. That is the beauty of this program for me, the ability to make the paper mock-up first. Way cool! Another thing that has helped is that this is making me think about how much water I actually use when out hiking. Generally I never boil more than 500ml at a time, so a lot of my legacy Ti Pots are really way too big. My REI TIware 600ml pot is good, but it's a little on the tall side for the job. My second one I just made is for my Evernew Ti 800ml tea kettle. I think it's going to be the first "offical" clone made tonight.
So another clone maker is born. I am very pleased with my first effort, I'd still like to get a stove/pot combo that would be a bit shorter for storage. I haven't done the folds yet on the side of the clone, still debating how best to attack that. I did a test boil tonight using 12oz of cold water, 1oz alky and an old Brasslite Turbo I (single wall) stove that I have in my kit. It produced a full roiling boil in just under 5 minutes, that stove/pot combo usually always took around 6 before. Success! >anyway whatever you go for i guarantee it will just be the first of many clones. I agree, twiglegs, I have to build some smaller stoves now and a Heiny pot next. Thanks for coming through with the code! Thanks again to CP for doing all of the research and hard PS coding work - tweaking the script today reminded me of my old Fortran coding days back in college.... on punchcards for you oldtimers
