"anyway the walk to watersmeet was grand and finished off with a rather large ice cream....... " Well it's sounding more of a good idea all the time Could always make a slight detour when i do the Devon coast to coast in Summer

I can honestly say that the walk from malmsmead through Brendon to Watersmeet is one of the most pleasant walks I have done in a long time....and then you can walk the extra 2 miles to lynmouth and then onto Countisbury if you wish..... lovely lovely area

There's a nice chapter about campfires in The Singing Wilderness by Sigurd Olson, some quotes: "In years of roaming the wilds, my campfires seem like glowing beads in a long chain of experience. Some of the beads glow more than the others, and when I blow on them ever so softly, they burst into flame. When that happens, I recapture the scenes themselves, pick them out of the almost forgotten limbo of the past and make them live." "There have been countless campfires, each one different, but some so blended into their backgrounds that it is hard for them to emerge. But I have found that when I catch even a glimmer of their almost forgotten light in the eyes of some friend who has shared them with me, they begin to flame once more. Those old fires have strange and wonderful powers. Even their memories make life the adventure it was meant to be."

Wow! Lovely stuff there indeed, Chasrle.

I can't remember the name of the film... but it had Sylvester Stallone in it... and involved vast amounts of stolen cash... but at one point he was sitting on the snow at night-time, chucking thick wads of cash onto a fire to keep warm, saying... "It costs a fortune to heat this place!"
|
 |
Cliffhanger! Better than the impromptu campfire in the crashed jungle plane, in Romancing the Stone though! Where Michael Douglas was burning up whole big blocks of one of the hemp drugs!

Lots of mutton chops and beer, lost the BBQ grill once the sun went down and built up the fire, more beer... superb.
