open to pros and charlatans.. all welcome

Sounds like a photo con to me.

New competition. Open to all. I need a fence built round my property, each entrant will build one panel to my specifications using there own materials. The Winner gets a new hammer. T&C The finished fence will become my property.

You mean in a sort of we will use all of your pictures and in return give away one camera sort of way Richard? Hmmmmmm very good point I would say.
|
 |
That is what I mean FB . (If anyone wants to build me a fence though.........)
|
 |
 And my shed needs painting...

To be fair, it doesn't look like one of those "send us millions of photos that we can use for whatever we like for free and one of you will win a camera". There's no mention of such on the comp page, there's no specific comp terms and conditions, and the site's general T&Cs don't mention that by submitting content you give Alpkit the right to do as they see fit with it... I'm sure the decent folk at Alpkit would clarify this if asked, but it doesn't look like one of 'those' competitions...

Bloody amateurs, think they know it all!

Well in that case change your underwear young man

P.S. I'll do the shed - been painting quite a bit recently, and I've got myself into a bit of a flow, as it were. I'll bring my own brushes and everything.

BUT on the other hand, it doesn't clearly say "the photographer will retain all copyright and Alpkit will only use the photo for one single use which is <insert purpose> in <insert territory> for <insert period of time>" so (a) whoever thought this up has no idea about copyright and rights in general, or, (b) we need a new "fence". I suspect (a). I for one am not going to risk giving up my rights for a 1/1,000 chance of "winning" a small camera

Once we've done the fence and the shed, could the working party please reform in south Wales to knock down my garden shed, which I promise will be much more fun than painting them or building fences?

It's a fair point NPC, which is why I suggested that Alpkit might be happy to clarify. Ultimately, I think it's just the light-hearted easy-going approach that Alpkit take to everything, and nothing sinister or deceptive. At the end of the day, most people who are seriously bothered about giving up rights to their photos probably aren't going to be entering a competition for a compact camera (good as it may be!). EDIT - but, like you say, not worth the risk as it stands!

Only if all the painters/shedders go commando. It seems to be the way to go these days. Commando is the new black or something. According to Michael who is our new men's underwear guru
