Any of you guys camping in the mountains at the do?

I cant get up to Kinlochleven till lunch/mid afternoon on Fri and have to be away around lunchtime on Sun.  So I like the idea of walking upto a wildcamp up high somwhere on the Fri night. Then on Sat maybe like Jamie suggests, meet others on a summit (Stob Ban?) then head down to the pub for a big hearty meal etc. Maybe pitch up on the campsite on the Sat, the midges wont be prob cos I'll eat in the pub and will only be at tent for sleepin etc.

We'll be arriving sometime on the Friday but definitely won't be wildcamping!  Sounds like a good plan to meet on a summit somewhere.  I'm wondering if it might make more sense for us to do something from Kinlochleven on Saturday rather than Glen Nevis then if we meet up at least we'll all be heading the same way.  The other Mamores TBW hasn't done yet are Na Gruagaichean and Binnein Beag.  Goes away to study MemoryMap...

Just when I was resigning myself to 1200m of ascent. What'll it be from Kinlochleven?

Kate, you can cheat a little and park at mamore lodgge approx 195m above sea level

Not much different I suspect Kate - anyway it's not the going up that's the problem in Scotland, it's the pathless descents that get you!  Not that I would ever take you off-path of course!

Yesterday we had suggestions of using gondolas, now Mamore Lodge!  Whatever next!

LOL whats wrong with Mamore Lodge?? both times Ive walked out of Kinlochleven I've parked there.

Am I a lazy cheat? If so I shall have to run up and down that wee road to the hotel and back 3 times to make up for it

LOL Bbf!  I will admit to using the Mamore Lodge a couple of times but I have to say it is much more satisfying to start and finish in the village without having to drive - that's one of the joys of staying in Kinlochleven.  And of course you enjoy that first pint so much more when you can go straight to the pub off the hill!

This is very true

I think us English folks spend our Thursdays looking for the highest possible altitude starts for the weekend! < guilty as charged! >

Mamore Lodge is a really friendly place, but I don't think I would spend more than half an hour there and certainly wouldn't spend a night there, it is the scariest place I have ever stepped into! Great people and friendly but the place is a bit too spooky for a big girl like me!

I spent a couple of New Year weeks at Mamore Lodge, from Uni in the '80s, when it was a weird, self-catering lodges establishment. Heating was on a meter so we slept in our down jackets!

It's ok, we know you're from Yorkshire.

Yes I know what you mean Jamie...it's got the feel of that Scottish Hotel from Little Britain hasn't it...

AT I agree with you about the trek through to Glen Nevis

What about parking at the Mamore Lodge, car sharing as much as possible as I think it is now £3 a car to park, and wandering up the path to Stob Coire a' Chairn and then on to Na Gruagaichean.

Either that or do Na Gruagaichean first, on to Stob Coire a' Chairn and on to Am Bodach for those who feel fit

The wild campers could camp around Bealach a' Chada Riabhaich were there should be a water source

Just an Idea but we are happy to go with the flow

Excellent Cath!  Fancy doing all the Mamores?  Or something more sensible like the Aonach Eagach in a nun's outfit!

Less than a month to go to this meet so thought I'd give this thread a bump for anyone who missed it...
