Looking for the best insulating jacket that give gives me the most warmth for my £100 or less and at a reasonable weight as I'm going to be carrying it all day.

This will be for camp use whilst wild camping primarily 3 season on Dartmoor. I do noticablely feel the cold when I stopped in the evening.

No problems when active so it's purely for tent/camp use.

I was thinking of the Rab Photon Hoody.

For £100 you can't beat the Montbell UL Inner Down jacket for insulating camp wear.

I don't think you'll go far wrong with the Photon.

Haglofs Barrier Hood is another good one, if you can find it. A Montane Prism 2.0 found it's way into my collection this week. It's light, warm and generally rather nice. They hit the shops in September tho' but would be worth the wait IMHO.

Earlier this year I bought a Rab Neutrino Vest from Tower Ridge for £85 including postage. Ordered it late afternoon and it was delivered the next morning.

I wear it at breaks and in the evenings at camp if it is chilly and find it great. Very light to carry and is better than putting an extra layer of clothing in the sack.

I have the Mountain Equipment Fitzroy jacket which has more or less the same spec as the Rab Photon Hoody (60g Primaloft on arms and 100g on body) so you might want to consider that. I have worn it once at minus 14°C and I was comfortable.

ME make a lot of the DWR on it, so that might be a factor. I have worn it in fairly heavy rain once and it shrugged it off. People also seem to rate the ME hoods.

I have seen it on sale for £100 a couple of times.

To add another option into the mix, I use a Rab Generator and find it excellent for what you describe. It uses 100g Primaloft One in the body and 60g in the arms. It doesn't have a hood but personally I prefer that - I'd rather wear a hat if it's cold enough. The jacket is very light and packs down small into its own chest pocket. I also feel the cold a little more than most and it's good enough for me for anything but the depths of winter.
