two things about that photo have been niggling me for a few days, so here goes: 1) it might just be the angle of the photo, but that stitching looks decidedly 'wavey' very unhilleberg-like. 2) again, might be the angle of the photo (and I've checked on mine), but I'm sure the guyline attachment point should be just above the thumb in the photo. ...and the more I look at it, that marking looks like an iron burn.

But why would you iron a tent?
|
 |
Ray, it was a dragonfly 2xt (my mistake, 3 not 4 season, but it was august...) - first off we were quite impressed it was taking a serious storm battering, bobbing down dramatically in the stronger blows. but then it just didn't get up... heartbreaking. especially since the weather was too foul for any more boats out, it was 6p.m, and a seven hour walk out in a storm. but then scotland's destroyed every 2 person tent we've tried. my lovely new shiny akto will be strictly south of the superstitious border, even if above tree-line. and i will cry if it breaks.

Jo, you can double pole it (and any other Hilleberg) if you're that paranoid about it blowing down. Pete.

.jpg) So..... Next question. How do you Akto owners store your Akto on the hill. Assuming that it is in one bag and the hilleberg one. Do you stuff or fold and pack? and assuming that the poles are packed in the middle to protect them. Edit: assumed poles are the corner poles not the 'hoop'

a combination of stuff/fold/roll the inner & fly into the Hilleberg bag taking up about half the space. Pole is kept in it's own bag/sleeve and carried seperately either inside or outside the pack depending on which pack used.
|
 |
Poles and pegs in the Hilleberg bag, down the side of my pack. I try and neatly fold the fabric, holding the mini-poles at the 'head' end, so that I can simply unroll the tent at the end of the day, knowing what side the door will be on. In truth, I get it wrong, and it's a 50-50 guess. Fabric, the length of the mini-poles now goes into the tent bag, and then into the Exped compression pack. Squeeze out air, lock off bag. Pack at top of rucksack so I can get tent set up easily at end of day.

spell what correktly ed? i am sure you are far too sensible to be hanging around on summits watching your tent get battered oh hang on ,its the chorizo you are after sadly i dont carry a frying pan as i have picked the bad habit off you lightweighters and now use a msr kettle and pocket rocket. you are welcome to join us for a walk/wildcamp next time.

Cheers, Paul. Leg infection's meant I've not been out recently (before that was work, excuses, excuses). Dartmoor this weekend. If leg doesn't cope, I may just hobble around a couple of pubs. Oh dear, what a pity. Unlike some folk here, I've not experimented much with my Akto. I tried some a carbon fibre pole from the States, but snapped. The titanium pegs from Alpkit have worked well. I've rigged up a 'washing line', feeding cord through the fabric hoopsin the inner above the door. Useful for hanging a head torch, or minilantern, from. A couple of times I've used the outer only, and bivvy'd insde. Meant I could use the shelter on ground too rough for the inner.

I replaced the guyline locks at the head/door end of my akto with white/glow-in-the-dark ones so I can tell which end I've got hold of before unrolling it. The door is on the left, head at door end.

Where abouts on dartmoor are you heading this weekend Duncan? As for packing the akto.... roled around the end poles inner and outer just tucked in as you go.... poles seperate with peg bag stuck in with poles.

I haven't got as far as finding out, DW. Bit of a mystery tour as I'm with some other chaps who've been there before. Have Akto, will travel. I replaced the guyline locks at the head/door end of my akto with white/glow-in-the-dark ones so I can tell which end I've got hold of before unrolling it. The door is on the left, head at door end.
Andrew - great idea, I like it.
