 Hi We are looking to bivvy South of Ben Nevis late on in the evening and would be keen to know if anyone can advise of suitable sites. We plan to park the car at 167691 and it looks as if we can move up to an area at 164700 for the rest of the night. If you can assist then it would be most appreciated. Regards Owen

 Is there a reason you want to start there? The route you are looking at is Five Finger Gully. If you want to camp high, why not head for the bealach between Meall Cumhann and the Ben at 178701?

We are flying up to Prestwick and aim to do the Lochaber Traverse followed by Stob Ban and a few of the Mamores before we get back to the car. We will arrive at the car park in the early hours and fancy a short walk to a suitable bivvy site. That bealach looks good.

If you don't fancy climbing in the dark, there is plenty of good camping spots through the gorge, in the Steall area.

That sounds good. We are not familiar with this area and are keen to identify some sites which are close to the car park. We have no problem with walking/climbing at night but having travelled since 8pm and arriving at the car park at probably 0230 then the sooner we get our heads down the better!

Remember that you can camp almost anywhere in Scotland.
Edited to say that you'll probably laugh when you see your original thought of place to camp in daylight. Steep!

Thanks, just feel it is important to check that we wont cause problems for anyone. I have seen so many walkers giving no consideration for others and that is not cool.

The price is reduced plus there's no extra postage and packing charges to worry about at all too. A lot of local lending libraries have this fab book too these days, in case you just want to simply borrow it to read.

I wouldn't choose to camp near the carpark, but the area round by Steall falls is perfect. Just be careful if you're walking that path in the dark!

 The Steall side can get a bit busy this time of year. I've seen scout troops on the Ben-side. My tip is to go to the ruin then cut right (South) across the river (it's usually shallow enough to run with gaiters). As long as it's not too wet the plateau on the opposite bank is nice and private.

Owy - Steall falls is just before the ruin on the other side (marked An Steall waterfall on the os map). Anywhere round that general area should be ok, but as mentioned you may encounter scout/d of e groups.

FD - That looks like a good area, thanks. We will be arriving at about 3AM so will have to be careful not to bother people if they are already camping there! I am sure we will manage.
