I'm trying to get my kit together for the coast to coast. Most of my kit is a hotch-potch and not collected for solo / lightweight trips like this so some compromise is needed. I have a TNF Westwind and love it, it's about 15 years old and never let me down. I think I can get the weight down to 2.4KG ish. I thought this was too heavy but I can't find an alternative that is: a, big enough for 1 messy camper and his kit b, a significant weight saving c, less than £140 d, as easy to put up. e, as weatherproof - I know it's July but I hate getting dripped on I looked at the Laser (too expensive), the laser large (ditto and very samey to my WW) and the WC sololite which seemed good until I saw the pitching video . The vango ultralites are a bit iffy for waterproofness (?) so I've read, and the TNF solo 12 is just to weird looking (and an iffy colour). If I was to buy another tent I'd want it to be quality and one that would last. I've looked at probably too many others and now can't see the woods for the trees. Is it worth looking any further, any suggestions? (Vaude?) or should I just accept the extra .6Kg and save my money? Any help much appreciated

There are d efinitely some good yet much cheaper cost Vango tents out there in the current tent market, that would fit the required bill rather well I feel. You really do not these days need to go spending out that much money, nor even to look that high up the top-end range of outdoors branded products quite often; in order to happily enjoy the same generally similar standards of manufacturing quality, and real robustness, where many of today's fine production line tents are concerned.

I completed the Coast to Coast walk in June 2007.I carried all my gear and did not have it transported day to day by Sherpa or Packhorse(Like most people seemed to be doing)but did stay B & B and thoroughly enjoyed the walk.Early on a group of 4 people carrying camping gear packed it in because they were carrying too much weight and were not enjoying it.A couple of weeks ago I completed the first 2 days of the walk again but this time carrying full camping gear-The pack was obviously much heavier and I was somewhat relieved that I didn't have to carry it all the way to Robin Hoods Bay!!! So my advice would be to get the weight down as much as possible if you wish to really enjoy the walk.

Ah their site is crap then if you just put a search in for tents .... it doesn't come up
|
 |
I googled it, then went to blacks. Could it be an old one? Next best price is £165, Tiso. Do you want a proper tent now, DW?

Hi Michael Thanks for the suggestion, it certainly looks an interesting option. I too can't find it on the Blacks site, best price I've found is £165 - Amazon. Did you go camping > 1,2 person > tent type > technical &...? or another route? I think I've tried 'em all!!

Thanks. Spoke to Blacks, it's out of stock centrally and they don't know if it's temporary / discontinued. it is in store but @ £179 and the store is 30 miles in the wrong direction. I'll keep looking as it's the best option I've seen so far.

Found one! It's still a store one @ £170 but it's on the way to my mum's so extra petrol cost is about £2. They've also got an xt which I want to look at - I know it's extra weight (and £) but the big porch for storing / cooking is really attractive. Thanks to all for your help and advice.
