Best sleeping mat product for the money, never heard of ohvee before just wondered if anyone has had any good/bad experience with them.

Depends on what 'best' means to you. Lightest, warmest, thickest etc.....

well good value for money, whilst still being a good all rounder!!

got the slim airic from alpkit. bit heavier than the thermarest but a shade thicker and a lot cheaper. I'll see how I feel about it after 5 nights on it next week.

ok, cool. Need some advice before that though

thermarest is tried and tested. I rate mine very highly (prolite 4).  If you've money to spare then exped downmat would be another option. not cheap, or particularly light but insulates so well you might be able to get away with a lighter sleeping bag.

I've never heard of ohvee before, but looking at their site, i wouldn't say it was 'cutting edge' gear.

Choice of mat depends on what time of year and if you intend to backpack with it. ie warmth and weight.

Thermarest are bringing out a new lightweight mat next month. Same size as the full length Prolite 3 but 2.75" thick, weighing 14oz. So i've read.

Thermarest seemed a bit pricey to me, compared to alpkit that is.

Alpkit very keenly priced - if slightly heavier than thermarest.  depends how fussed you are about the cost, or the extra weight... everyone sets their sights slightly differently depending on what is more important for them.  Pick a choice that makes an acceptable (to you) compromise between weight and price.  Both Alpkit and Thermarest are good solid products.

Are thermarest alot lighter then?

120g difference between slim airic and prolite 3.

Not to much then, depends how much weight matters to you I suppose
Of course a foam mat is the lightest and cheapest.

yes, but is it the most comfortable? LOL

A space blanket is cheaper and lighter than a foam mat...  Of course, it won't actually be that good, but better than nothing, just.  You won't find me on one though!

Well if you realy want to save weight a sleeping bag on the tent floor! Wouldn't try it though. Let's get back to the point I think.

You havent actually said what you want it for?

If weight / size no issue then Alpkit thick one.

If backpacking and you want a inflatable then 3/4 thermarest 3 season and add a Karrimat for winter.

The lightest inflatables i could find were made by Montbell. I ordered one of these from the US.

Ok, I want a lightish one, not too bothered, for a cheapish price. Thermarest just seem quit expensive for a mat.

thermarest prolite 4 for me.

the alpkit slim airic is ok but not thick enough.it rolls down to the same size as the prolite 4.the standard airic is too big for backpacking.imo.the fat airics are great for car camping.i have had 3 and they all leaked when i got them.they were ok once i put glue on them and in alpkits defense they let me keep one free of charge.

word of warning about prolite 4 mats. when your guyline fails in 97.5 mph winds (and you have been a numpty and left your door unzipped)and the tent flips onto its nose the matt will most probably fly all the way to ireland. always zip yer tent up
