I recently got a new pair of boots and the laces have 3 of their ends frayed, I've had plenty of laces break before but not this problem, apart from the ends they are not showing much wear at all (covered 200 miles or so).

I'm not stepping on them, the dog isnt chewing them, anyone know whats happening? or are they just no good (they are the ones that came with the boots (Borneos)).

Dip the ends in Bostik... just glue all the frayed bits back together.

Thanks Paddy, I'll do that.

I was curious why it was happening though, I'm not doing anything different but I've never had lace ends fail like this so soon, I guess it must be a weakness in these particular ones.

You might also try passing the frizzled ends through a flame, but if the laces are the 'wrong' sort of material, they won't melt and fuse, they'll just burn. Bostik is a safer bet if in doubt.

...piece of string walks into a bar, " you look a bit tatty, are you ok?" asks the bartender - "no, I'm a frayed knot" replies the string!

How long have you been waiting for that opportunity?

The old ones are the best ones....(jokes, that is, not laces)

Glyn... you have no idea how much I struggled NOT to write the "frayed knot" thing myself earlier... thanks for doing it for me!

ok, ok, I know it was a bit ropey

Right! Rope jokes is it?

There were 11 women hanging onto a rope that was hanging down a cliff. Ten were blonde, and one was a brunette. They all decided that one person should let go because if they didn't then the rope would break and everyone would die. No one could decide who should go, so finally the brunette thought to herself I'll let go.
After a really touching speech from the brunette saying she would let go, all of the blondes started clapping.

Shouldn't this just be a thread for shoelace jokes though, Ben?Oh, and bootlace jokes too of course, goes without saying really. So I don't know why I said that then!

Thread mites on the increase wasn't it?I'm sure that was another thing caused by Global Warming, or so the experts said.
