I really have to get hold of some chord to try this out... brilliant idea!

Er yeah! Until you want to read it/it rains/the wind blows. Would be a good way to stop a baguette from getting crushed though.

I'm glad i'm not the only person who likes Orange I prefer the chest pouch.
Yes, I've got the chest pouch too, but I love the lateral thinking that has gone into this. Before I got the chest pouch I often struggled to figure a place to hold my map without it falling out. It is the same lateral thinking that has gone into the Kitescreen whichI think was mentioned by Frum lately.

What's wrong with an old fashioned waterproof map case hanging from around your neck then, please do someone tell? If it ain't broke....etc

 Bl**dy annoying, that's why!
What's the advantage of the split rings? Why not attach the elasticated cord straight onto the strap?
Martin, a lot of them have the option of rolling up too! My BCB one from the 1990's does! And it clips onto a D ring on a rucksack etc; if needs be must I don't want it hanging around my neck at all, every once in a while!

I usually stuff mine in my back pocket. If I do use a map case it easily folds and stashes under the chest strap so no flapping there. That map in the photo will probably be lost in 5 minutes! Apart from which it will annoyingly curl up every time you want to look at it. And at night, earwigs will nest in it.
 >And at night, earwigs will nest in it. ultra light backpacking - no need to take breakfast for the next day
Earwigs? Or extremely big paper mites? You be the judge!
You would think someone has just invented the wheel! Am i missing something?
it's a novel way of using two loops to attach a map to your strap instead of one. pay attention will ya!
 Why would i want to?
 because you can?
 Then i wont.
 be like that then......

Hey I've just attached an ice-axe to my willy using parcel string. My photo won't upload though
A truly lightweight solution wouldn't require the parcel string!

Hey I've just attached an ice-axe to my willy using parcel string. So you'll be able to do this with no hands, Marcus.
