Any ideas I'm looking for a duffle bag that'll take any sh!t thrown at it. I like the look of the Northface offerings but dont want to pay that much. Any ideas, anyone come across the salomon bags?

Tatonka do what is basically a copy of the TNF ones.

I've got one and its brill. Only about 40 ish quid as well.

Outside in Hathersage had a few when we were there over easter.

Could be worth a phone call?

I bought a Salomon bag recently from Cotswold, on offer at £40 I think. (40l size grey). They do do a bigger one but it doesn't have carry handles just rucksack type straps. Its been great so far, tough material, chunky zips, fairly bulletproof I'd say.

Martyn, have a look at Lifeventure's Basic Duffle if you don't want to spend too much.
Ellis Brigham do them for £27.99. I've got one and although I admit it's only suffered the hands of baggage handling twice so far, for the money it seems solid enough and great value.

I've got the Lowe Alpine variant and am happy with it . They do 4 sizes if memory serves 50L, 70L, 90L & 120L. Pretty good and way cheaper than TNF equivalent at around £50 for the 120L

120 Litres? That's not a duffel bag, that's a body bag.

We have a 150l one - it's bigger than some African kingdoms.

Very useful when you're caught in a fix and need to dispose of something quickly, if you get my meaning? Obviously mines over 70l and if anybody ask's I wouldn't know that you can fit a small body in a 120l bag! er is that the time? must dash ........ ;)

I take it then that all regular OM contributors have lovely patios......

in a Brookside style....

I can climb inside the XL TNF one and get it zipped up fully. Its not too cramped either.

Scared the crap out of the owners cat whrn this huge red bag started rolling round the floor though!

Do they make any Jeannie-sized ones?

Could you zip yourself inside one of these duffel bags and post yourself to your holiday destination thus saving on airfares?

Yours (always on the lookout to save a few bob),

Jeannie, of course I did. It was Dr Cooks, and for some reason it seemed like a bloody funny thing to do...

Anyway, if you're flexible you could prob fit in duffle. I'll bring it at the weekend for you to check.

Andy, having been carried around for a bit inside a marquee bag that I accidentally climbed into once, I wouldn't recommend it. Not comfy for a long period of time, and baggage handlers are not known for their delicate handling of such items.....

Simon - not wanting to sound funny but...
"a marquee bag that I accidentally climbed into"????
That's TWO bags you have climbed into...any more?
Fess up now...
