No obvious place to put this, but on the basis that some folk might be new to photography, and might not even know about white balance (I know, can you believe it?), I've put it under 'starting out'. Some explanation for those not in the know - wannabe charlatan is an 'in' joke, referring to a dark period in OM's past . In essence, anyone who isn't professionally qualified as a photographer, but rises above themselves & takes photies, is a 'wannabe charlatan'. The more arty your photies are, the higher your WCQ (wannabe charlatan quotient). Wear it as a badge of honour We won't be elitist, so pro & semi-pro togs are also welcome. Hopefully they'll forgive me my choice of thread title. So, what's it all about? Folk post piccies for critique, comment etc, or ask advice about things photographic. Er, that's it.

What took you so long? ETA - Wish I'd thought of it!

 The swearing thread inspired it

Ceeb, as you kindly allude to, some of us do indeed need help balancing. my new camera and i will certainly contribute to this thread, just as soon as we get out somewhere worth photographing.

Great idea CB I tend to get good pictures based purely on the law of averages of if I take enough I may get one or two good ones given that the locations make it so hard to take a bad one. It would be great if we could get the imput of a decent professional or semi-pro ........let's hope someone like Michael spots the thread

He may be scraping together enough "pin money" to pay for his broadband connection

Are we allowed to swear? As a chalatan I feel it a God give rite. If not I shall go feck off! Nothing more to say on the matter other than you need at least a hundred years of photographic experience to be taken seriously(not that it counts for anything) or a weekend on a LOTC course(trained and ready, just like that). Take your pick as each will considerably age you. I shall now wink because that makes the comment ok.

Sign me up for the hundred years ...... time's always honest and reliable, but if a weekend course with Jon Allinson, Dave Newbould or Colin Prior's an alternative I'd go for that

In the absence of Ansel Adams & Galen Rowell, I s'pose Colin Prior will do Does he post on here?
|
 |
Surely Ansel Adams is not still alive, is he? I thought he photographed things long ago, when images were all in black and white. Like CB.

Ansel Adams.......now you're talking. I saw lots of his work in Yosemite and wish I'd bought some while the pound was worth something.
I don'tt hink I've seen Colin Prior post...........but Al Lee (POsing productions, spectacular 360 panoramas, films etc) does come on every now and then and Jon knows him pretty well so you never know lol

No, Trev, that's why I said "in the absence of ..." Ditto Galen Rowell.

Sign me up too, since you all talked me into buying that powershot G9 at christmas. I am in the Dave Mycroft law of averages camp at the moment and warn you that, I have a nasty habit of heavily, obviously and blatently over photoshopping my piccies. I find you can never add enough vibrancy to photos taken in Scotland, as this attribute does not come naturally up here. I would really appreciate any advice, harsh criticism and abuseabout my pics, and wouldnt expect anyless on here.

Alan Gordon ("The Scottish Mountains" book and calendars) and Colin Prior are the 2 photographers that produce images that really make me smile. They're out there on top of Scotland at odd hours to get spectacular shots and they really catch the views I'm trying to see.

I warned you, heavily, obviously and blatently over photoshopped. No photographic value but I just felt this thread required a bit of Dino-sex.
|
 |
OK, leaving aside your predilection for monster sex ... the top photie looks like a composite. As you say, over photo-shopped. Not having PS I couldn't begin to tell you what it is you've done wrong.
|
 |
 What picture?
|
 |
original adjusted version done in photoshop, but still not happy with it and how do I get a similar result without photoshopping it?

Oh and great idea for a thread Chairman Bill.
