Got sealskinz myself, nothing special but do the job turn them inside out at the end of the day so the inside can air. Can i point out that rocky's have 2 layer goretex and amphibian's by trekmates are 3 layer... That makes them better right.... or heavier. Who knows? I'm sure someone on this forum does so inform us all please

Rockys arrived during the week.  Used them this weekend on an overnighter in the highlands.

Walked for about 4-5 hours a day in deep snow in nothing but cheap trainers.  Of course, they were sodden and had nice pools of water inside when I took them off,  but inside the goretex socks my feet were cosy and not even damp.

I'm well impressed.

Glad they worked out ok for you Doctor. I love mine. Hopefully they will prove to be durable. As the US Marines use them, i'm hopefull they will last.

Gonna splash on some Rocky goretex socks and would be grateful for some advice on usage and sizing.

I usually wear 1000 mile liner socks or sometimes Bridgedale looped pile socks in snow, and feet are narrow Uk size 8s - is it best to wear socks under the Rockys? What size Rockys do you think would fit best ?

Anyone got any feel for how many miles Rockys last ?

Thanks guys ...

The Rockys are designed for putting on over your hiking socks, since they're essentially just goretex with no padding and are a fairly thin layer.

I chose the same size as I take in a boot and they fit ok.

Couldn't say how long they'd last in terms of miles, but I've put a fair distance on them already (out every weekend plus a two week stint in the hills recently) and they seem as good as new. The outer layer is quite rugged. The instructions state you should be careful when putting them on, I imagine the goretex inner is prone to being damaged if you twist or tear them too much.

I'd buy them again.

Judy - coincidentally we were discussing this yesterday; the Rockys are very hard to get in the UK at the moment and it looks as though they might no longer be being imported - so strike while the iron is hot?

Mine are doing well; I have worn them for I guess 20 days and they are fine; the only signs of wear being the tape rucking a little. Four days in a row with the same socks and they (if not me) were tolerable

I've just ordered one of the last pairs from here i hope they fit, if they are as good as everyone says surely someone else will import them, as more people walk in trail shoes now they're ideal.

Yes, it looks like it:  I have ordered and waited (and waited) til eventually being told that they are no longer available here.  Tried canoesandkayaks, uttings and fly-fishing-tackle, so if anyone sees some size 9s (US10) I'd love to know...

Trekmates Amphibians, much reviled in all the online reviews I have read, get a glowing report in this month's TGO, which seems odd.

Dr G,

just my 2p.  Experimented with goretex socks many years ago and gave up because, yes, when worn in the bath or a stream, they were completely waterproof, but after a day's heavy walking, sweating through another layer, my feet still came out as damp as if I had not worn them if my boots got wet.  That's just me of course, but then I have never experienced any product to breath enought for me and gave up on the while idea of breathable materials before I got a paramo smok.

Please post if these work - is your girlfriend going to try them too given her previous failure?  I'll be interested, but still doubt they'd work for me!

US10's were what I waited for since Jan until also being told of the unavailability, so if anyone finds any..... tell me first!!

I hope my existing pair keep on going - they've lasted very well so far. I've looked at buying from the US,but they don't seem to be very widely available there right now (I notice they don't feature on the Rocky website!), the prices are a bit prohibitive, and finding somewhere that'll ship beyond North America is problematic or costly.

I think I may be hunting out the Trekmates or Gore Bikewear versions to give them a try....

Seeing as 'the secret' is out on the Rockys, i've just ordered my 2nd pair from Brookbanks, before there is none left in the UK. The pound/dollar exchange rate seems to have put off the UK importers. I think most of them bought in stock when it was $2 to the £.

Hopefully my original pair will last for ages, as there is no sign of wear on them.

I was looking at them on their site last night Matt.

I've tried Fly Fishing, Brookbank, Silvermans and Uttings in the last few days - no joy in my size at any of them. There are still a few of the smaller and larger sizes kicking around out there.

Matt, Gore Bikewear socks disappeared a year or two ago.   They only do gore-tex overshoes now.

Exact same situation for me Matt a bit dissapointing to say the least, espec after putting through the orders and nothing coming of it.

After a month of getting messed around chose to get a pair of trekmate amphibians, £22.94 with next day postage form HERE (Outdoor Gear) Ordered yesterday afternoon arrived this morning, so service from the shop is 1st class. Havent been out walking them in yet, just round the house in my inov-8's, they seem pretty good, however might have quite a bit of excess if you fall into the smaller number in the size . I'm usually a 9 and the medium ones seem fine, however they are most likely less fitted than the rockys with increments in 2's instead of halves. This boyo seems pretty chuffed with them, which is one of the reasons I went ahead with my purchase.

I emailed what i think was the UK distributor and this is what i got back. So no joy unless someone else takes over from them.

Thank you for your interest in Rocky Gore-Tex Socks.

Unfortunately, ULC will no longer be importing and stocking Rocky Gore-Tex Socks.

I think it might be a bit extreme to take over UK distribution just to get my hands on a pair.

However, maybe.......
