With the ultra 20 i tend to have a thin foam mat under it and just use a short prolite for the top half with the straps under the prolite but ontop of the foam works for me not been cold with it as yet.

I have played with my new toy!! Very nice, i am going for the toe box on top first strap under mat and then the top one loose so i can get it snug around me. Can't say i am a convert but mat+bag is 1400grams. Ultra lights and insulated core bigagnes aircore.

I think I am going to sell mine - I just sleep too cold these days to really get the best out of it ...which is a pity as it seems to work for everyone else

havent been cold in mine yet. perhaps when you get old like Ed, you have to wrap up warmer? The only thing i would say about it is that I find the design of the straps fiddly. I think I will remove mine and add my own design but other than that its a great bag/quilt

maybe being a porker helps with the insulation Dave

so how come you arent warm then Ed? seriously though, I have yet to find a night when the quilt and a decent mat havent kept me warm. I guess a truer test would be Scotland in winter

I just sleep cold now I am no longer 'well upholstered'
|
 |
Ed, I suspect that you are still over adjusting to being less 'well upholstered'. What puts me off quilts is the though of getting a cold blast all down my backbone while sitting up to cook and eat breakfast.

I've been tempted into getting a quilt several times. The Nunatak and Jacks look interesting, but a more expensive. Is the Golite quilt available in the UK? I haven't seen it stocked by the usual suspects! Thanks David

Here but they call it a backless sleeping bag.

 Missed that. Thanks

.JPG) I've used my ultra 20 for about 15 nights since August. With a TAR PL3 short, and bit of foam or pack under feet. I like it, and am comfortable with the concept now, but could't see it going down to -7C (even with full length foam as well). A couple of times in Scotland I needed my Photon Hoody over a baselayer. From the new specs below, you can see that Golite have respecced their quilts for next year. The 1+ season quilt(+4degC) has the same weight (560g) and fill (270g) as the current Ultra 20 (-7degC) - quite a difference. The 'new' 20 (-7C) is over 700g now... I read a US review where the quilt owner has ditched the straps and sewn on a 6" strip of nylon along both edges as a draught excluder (like the RayWay quilt design) I may do this with mine, and replace the tapes with flat cord and cordlocks

Hi there, I bought one just before the summer holidays and used it in the Alps and in Norway during July and August. I found it really versatile and it was easy to ventilate in the Alps where the night time temperatures were higher. The bag's rating is nowhere near -7 degrees, as I found out on several chilly nights on the Hardanger plateau. I think the new models seem to be more realistic with their ratings David
