I started the silnet tonight on the inside of the seams on side of the vents, lovely stuff when its applied, quite surprisingly time consuming though. I certainly wouldn't want to do an entire tent! Piccies of the beast last weekend...

Inside of the seams? Why? I will post a Munkyworks half-inner review when up to the task.
"Inside of the seams? Why?" thats how it says in the destructions to do it?
Really - weird? There I was thinking rain came from the outside
Ach well I'm just doin what I were told by the destructions I did wonder how other people do the sealing actually as I've never seen it done. I think the brushing on pushes it through the tiny holes though.

Did you dilute the Silnet, Jamie? Inside? Whatever next!
What is he best way to apply the silnet? I've still to do mine. Can I do it indoors or is it best to have the tent pitched. Do I brush it on? whats this about diluting it? I've heard of folk using a syringe to apply it into the seam neatly. Jaimie my tube says about doing it inside aswell. Oh aye I ended up ordering a nest as well.

Dilute it with white spirit, BBF. I did mine about 50:50. It helps it run into the stitch holes.
I usually mix it 1 part silicon to 2 or 3 parts white spirit. A small brush works for me. My Hex doesn't need sealing. I've always done the outside on other shelters though.

If you want to use a syringe, make it 2 parts white spirit to 1 part silnet.

Belt and braces mike. It's now waterproof to a depth of 150 metres
I guess a syringe would finish off neater eh?
I've never understood the syringe method. Sure, it will be good for getting the mix into the seam join, but what about the double row of stitch holes?
I did mine with a brush and it's barely visible. Just a slight sheen.
Aye, I suppose that makes sense Mike. Who wants to lend me their Hex 3 or SL3 to practise on before I make a sticky mess of mine then?
Desnt the suff on the surface of the fabric not just rub off though once it's dry?
It soaks in if you dilute it BBF. It can 'crack' if used straight.

.JPG) I haven't sealed mine Might have time tomorrow though... What I have done is try another method of joining my leki poles with a home made gadget - it was so wobbly that I won't even describe it So I tried this: This is my pole joining setup. Materials: 1m of cord 2x30cm velcro tape / sticky velcro from wool shop Total cost = < £1 Preparation: Stick the vecro to itself back to back so that you have 2x30cm strips with hooks on one side and loops on the other.
Use: Using a clove hitch, tie one end of the cord around the pointy end of pole 1 just below the snow basket flange. Repeat with other end of cord on pole 2. Line up the poles parallel and overlapped with the handles at the far ends. Wrap velcro strips around each end of the overlapping section. Done.
I've used this method for about 6 years now on many many trips and it's never failed. Total weight is less than 20 grams. Bonus, if you loose or forget any of the bits you can easily improvise with string and tape. Andy.
Works a treat - you get a slight 'bow in the pole under compression, but solid as....
Cheers Andy

There is a good article on seam sealing here from BPL.com. You might need to be a member to read it though.
