 Cheers for the info Mike!

.JPG) Nice one Jamie - there's something about the shape of the Hex that attracts folk. What Mike says really - including the separate pegs for inner by door - for cooking. Used for a wild camp last night with missus and 11 year old - plenty of room for third smaller person... off-set the pole 6" to make more room for 2 on one side. I do find - as with any nylon tent, it is best to re-peg the fly tight once it has 'relaxed' due to cooler evening air or wetness. I also use 5 ti pegs for the intermediate pegging points most of the time, but have not needed the guys yet - even in fairly windy conditions. (not been up mountains with it (yet) though )

Hi Mole, I was out in mine too last night on a fantastic wild camp in the Brecon Beacons with the missus, the dog and Metric Kate was in her Superlite Voyager but joined us for socialising during the late hours, couldn't believe we were all comfy the three of us and the dog! Amazing! I did a bit of playing around with different way sof having the inner and repegged etc, there was only one problem in the morning which was that the seams where the vents are you can clearly in daylight see they have not self sealed like the rest of the tent and therefore the water comes dripping in and we had a very rainy and windy morning. I'd read other peoples experiences saying that the water comes in the vents but I'm not convinced that is the problem, We had rain almmost vertical at times in the wind and it was definitely not coming through the actual vent. I think its the seams don't seal in that particular place as there is more to thread through or something. You can literally see when you lie down and look up the entire tent has no holes at all by any thread seams entries except that upper area. I've got some Silnet seam sealer which I bought last week but not had time to do yet so once thats done it'll be perfect and perfect it is! I wasn't aware of the extra intermiddiate peging points but I too will carry some light titanium pegs to peg these out to stop the fly flapping in wind when wet. We used it with the inner unpegged by the door to make a porch for our wet gear. I'll do some pictures and a proper write up of our experience in the tent once I get a spare few minutes in the next few days. I think I'm gonna be extremely happy with it though, its huge, lightweight, so versitile and simple.

.JPG) I think I'm gonna be extremely happy with it though, its huge, lightweight, so versitile and simple. That's it - just need to work around it's limitations - just porch really IMO Oh, and lack of 'solid' inner tent, though the nest's mesh is quite dense and seems fine for 3 season. I was surprised that My Hex hasn't needed seam sealing - After reading Fossil's laments I thought it would leak like a seive! I have had the windblown droplets once though - minimla really and should be easily sorted by closing the vent on the windward side with some cord or velcro tabs I reckon

I ended up ordering the inner the yesterday for using with others but solo I'll stick to my MD bivi. Jamie, do you want the handle section off my other old Alpkit pole before I bin it? (see earlier in this thread for Parky's method of joining two Pacer poles together) I can bring it up to Glen Coe with us.

Think it's well worth knocking up a half hex inner with less mesh for solo use especially if you have the use of a sewing machine... think the material costs for mine came to about 35quid. i have the mld bug bivi but would rather carry the extra 280 grams to have the half inner comfort.

 |
I agree DW but until I find somone whoe can drive said sewing M/C it'll have to be the bivi bag for now. You dont fancy making me one do you DW?

 It leaks
|
 |
.JPG) Mine doesn't Yet.... Anyway, every non canvas tent I've ever had which doesn't have taped seams, has leaked though some of the seams in heavy rain. Seal em. Sorted.
|
 |
It leaks untill seam sealed..... hence why i had to stop at the plume for a few beers a couple of weeks ago for a few drinks while the sealant set
BBF i'll be making a few more bits for myself first, get things perfected so they look tidyer than my mark 1 half inner..... but i may well contemplate mass production at a later date was i have perfected the sewing part

Guess you have the Hex rather than the leaky shangi tarp
|
 |
.JPG) I do have a hex - lucky ebay bargain - unused nest too... Reckon it's only cos it's a single skin that some folks notice so much - I see droplets on the inner of most tents we have had in heavy rain - unsealed seams are bound to leak a bit - they have needle holes in them.. My spacepacker shows a distinct line of daylight holes all along the pole-sleeve seam along it's ridge - fine when sealed.

"That's it - just need to work around it's limitations - just porch really IMO" Aye, not pegging the inner near the door and just pulling it back worked okay, although it was a bit annoying then the looser part sagging in on us though nothing that annoying. "Oh, and lack of 'solid' inner tent, though the nest's mesh is quite dense and seems fine for 3 season." Kate said something similar that she'd want a proper inner if she thought of one. The mesh wasn't as drafty as I've seen on my other lightweight inners, its a much denser mesh like you say. BBF, I'd defo be interested in seeing other techniques for getting the poles sorted as the main pole. I took the normal pole this weekend as I hadn't found time to practise before I left If you can bring that piece too, that'd be good! We may actually bring the Shangri-La 3 instead of the usual Vango Equinox we ususally use for car camping, but not sure yet. DW, you can add me to one of your future poential customers! Might have a beady eye on Ebay this month too and TN factory stuf to see if any older models go on sale that have small inners I can take a part and play with and modify to be a single person use half size inner. Got piccies from our weekend including some piccies of the tent here...

I'm waiting for edwin to blow my trumpet (ooerr matron) regarding the Cunning MunkyWorks Mesh Oook Nest™ and the Cunning MunkyWorks Doobrie™, as I'm a shy retiring type not given to self promotion The vents leaking are a known issue in wind driven rain. Sunday night the rain wasn't merely horizontal, I actually think it was going up

I think some velcro tape and seam sealer might solve the vent issue. I've loads at work so shall investigate tonight.

I'd best get modding then Had a few drops coming in that way about a month back when it was blowing 40mph gusts, but nowt to get bothered about at the time (no nest or bivvy then either).
