I think Mike fae Dundee tried his Ti Goat poles with the Hex only to find they bent alarmingly - they are very light poles; but as to your Q - don't know. Mail Bob?

Hi Mole and co, yes I have another version coming out which will do the same thing for the thinner poles, except this time rather than removing the lower section, you just have to remove the upper section and link the 2 lower sections together. (It will come with 2 rubber feet also)

This next one will work with Carbon pacers and Leki Ultralights and all the others with a 16mm UPPER section. The current extender works with poles with a 14mm LOWER section.

Baically there are two kinds of poles which go 18/16/14 (Use the current extender) and 16/14/12mm in dia (new extender).

Phew it's complicated isn't it?

My TiGoat poles measure approx 11mm dia top secttion, and 9mm dia bottom section. That is a rough rule measurement as my micrometer is at work.

I tried using them lashed together in my Hex, but they bent too much for my liking. Maybe safe, but i didn't want to risk it. They work fine used as a single on my other shelters.

Hi Mike, I tried doing the same thing with the Mounatin King Trail Blaze poles which appear to be similar and I just wouldn't want to put them under that much pressure.

For tarps they would be fine, but keeping to the theme of this thread, for the SL3 or Hex, then the more traditional walking poles are more likely to do the job and not let you down.

Yeah, i use my Black Diamond poles with the Hex, Bob. The bend with the TiGoat ones was pretty severe. They might have been ok, but i wouldn't have slept properly. I would have been waiting for them to go BANG during the night.

Has anyone worked out an alternative to the golite nest for 1 person.

As its hard to make and original is heavy and no room for mudy gear.

But also needs to be midge proof and somewot wind proof for wen hex is pitched higher but also lightweight.

The smd net tent is a option but looks small and not wind proof.

And dont want to be carying hex with bivy and bug net

Cunning MunkyWorks Winter Oook Nest™ now complete.

Much the same as the all mesh version, except using slinky yellow pertexy stuff which is windproof and pretty water resistant.

Small mesh panel for some ventilation at the top of the door and a slightly taller bathtub than the mesh nest.

I've added hangers to lift the bathtub (pic 3) which weren't needed for the mesh inner, but this fabric sags a lot more.

I've also shifted the door to the other side, as it makes more sense in relation to my sleeping bag zip.

Weight is 630g. A bit heavier than the mesh version (50g or so). As with the mesh nest, it could be made considerably lighter with a silnylon floor and lighter body material, but even at that the whole package is coming in at just under 1500g including pole extending Doobrie™, pegs and outer

Just tested my 16mm sample to replace Carbon Pacer and Leki Superlight handles and bingo, problem solved!

Sadly it won't work with Black Diamond Poles due to their snap-click-lock system. It requires poles with a twist lock system. I think I'll supply it with 2 rubber feet to protect the tent and floor.

Hopefully it'll be a stock item before Christmas or just after.

Just found this very cheap price for the old Hex 3.  £119 can't be bad, although I've never heard of, or used this company so I can't comment on customer service.

I've also posted this in the Bargain Alert thread.
