Hi all, Just a quick one. Has anyone ordered and received their new model Scarp 1 Tarptent yet. I am trying to work out the total cost of buying one including: $295 cost of tent Standard Tarptent cost of shipping to UK Customs duty VAT (@15%) Customs clearance charges (if any) Anyone have any experience so far? Cheers Worm

I bought the original and have a 'UK' fly on the way. I did not pay customs clearance but did pay a little VAT (around £26 iirc). All in I paid £230 I think - cheaper than the Laser which was also on my list. The Scarp is a fine tent; worth a few £ in charges in my opinion. Oh and that included the extra cross-poles.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree I think it is definitely worth the extra. The poles are not now included in the price as they were with the old design but still I think I made up my mind a few months ago anyway. I calculated around £250 max which is still way cheaper than the others on my list.

You will probably find the tent arrrives in record time - they normally do. If you're lucky you will probably get away without paying extra charges, I think it helps that Henry doesn't emblazon his packaging with fancy logos and stuff. I had the pleasure of buying Mr Shires a beer over the summer in Oregon. Top bloke! You might like to know that there is almost always a January sale with 20% off most models. I am thinking of buying a Moment in the New year.

That is good to know. He is definitely very quick to respond to any enquires. I have been in contact infrequently over the past year but Henry always gets back with a reply within a day, often much less. I have already ordered my Scarp 1. I would really like to try it out over the Xmas holidays, planning a fairly big trip in the spring. It has worked out a little bit more expensive than I had calculated including the poles but I am not really bothered. It looks like a great tent.

Just out of interest Worm, how much did it cost all in with poles - did the extra length of the UK fly cost any more? I contacted Henry a while back upon seeing the "UK fly" and found him very helpful and quick to respond. This was going to be my Crimbo present to myself but have decided to wait until January on Ricks advice... possibly.

The Tarptent 20% sale happens usually in November but not every year. Henry (I think) does that to clear surplus inventory at the end of the main hiking season in the US.This is from the TT website : November 16, 2009 Stock Update: The Contrail, Rainbow, Double Rainbow, Squall 2, Cloudburst 2, Rainshadow 2, and Hogback are in stock. Moments are shipping this week and we're filling backorders over the next couple of weeks. It will be "in stock" when those orders are filled. The Scarp 1 is also shipping this week and backorders will take 2-3 weeks to fill. It will be "in stock" when those orders are filled. The Sublite will be back in stock at the end of November. The Sublite Sil and Scarp 2 will be back in stock in January. Only my guess but I would not expect to see a sale on the Scarp/Moment/Hogback if any sale at all. Franco

Ed - I claim my thirty pieces of silver, you are the devil incarnate! Then again, what's fifty quid if I order early.

Oh. Blimey, it took me that long to post a reply?!

Shocking Rocky.....such a time-lag; you'll be up before the beak next

Rocky, total cost of tent ($295) including poles ($30.00) and shipping ($43.00) so far is about £225. Go on treat yourself...Merry Xmas!

£225 - better than I thought and better than the Laser too. Looks like I'm getting a new tent for Christmas then... if I order next Friday do you think it'll be here in time?
|
 |
I really couldn't tell you. If I were you I'd order it asap. Apparently there is a two to three week order backlog to fill. Check out the Tarptent site and go to the ordering page. Just give Henry a shout and ask what the situation is. I am not expecting mine for a few more weeks. As long as I get it in time to try it out over Xmas I'll be happy. That bath tub floor is gonna be useful!!
|
 |
Yes but the bathtub floor only has a hydrostatic head of 1200mm at best (maybe less). Use a groundsheet.
