The Credit Crunch must also be having an effect in Norway. Stoke on Trent (Hanley) Branch of TK Maxx has Soft Shell Jackets (95% Polyester/5%Spandex) by Norweigen Outdoor Company Skogstad for £12.99p. Material appears to be "own brand" but similar to Polartec Powershield.

Called into the Hanley store yesterday to have a look at the Skogstad Soft Shell Jackets. They look a good buy for the money but didn't have my size in stock.(Large)As far as I could see, they had 2 x XL,1 x medium and 1 x XXL.Went off to Blacks and got Primaloft Jacket for £39.99 reduced from £79.99.

Ref post from Trentham Walker I purchased a Large Size of the Skogstad Soft Shell Jacket it must have been one of the only ones in that size. I visited the Stafford TK Maxx today and they had none of these jackets at all but did have some of the 66N brand Soft Shell Jackets at £60.00 mentioned in the post from Captain Paranoia.

Driza-bone womens merino tops £19.99. Australian merino with the following statement:- All DBA merino is from certified and verified non-mulsed sheep. Another great list from CP who I recall discussed providing photos recently. Dont know about anyone else but I'd be more interested if he would highlight items he thought to be particularly good (as he is a bit of a materials meister). CP?

I generally only post things I think are good, or worth considering. If I posted every ACG item, there would be a very long list of a lot of rubbish...

A very detailed CP list is only really relevant for folk who can pop in (his local) Reading Branch though

Worthing TKMax Sigg bottles, mainly pink for 5.99 Bought one for my daughter. Trek mates Wind stopper softshell hat. You know the really unsexy one with the earflaps... £11

If I posted every ACG item, there would be a very long list of a lot of rubbish...Yes I appreciate that CP I was thinking of an asterix against items that you either:-BoughtBought for someone elseWould have bought if there had been the right size or a better colour etcIt's just a thought, I've followed these posts for years and NPC, often things flagged up on this thread are to be found in other branches.

 > A very detailed CP list is only really relevant for folk who can pop in (his local) Reading Branch though Indeed. I only give very detailed lists as they're pulled direct from the Psion. Generally, though, if something's available in one branch, it's also seen in other branches. Ermm... flattering as it is to be asked to make more detailed suggestions, I think I'll pass on that one; people are very different, and have different needs and preferences. I'll continue to post things I think look interesting, and let people decide for themselves. I usually provide enough info for google to find the item, e.g. 66N Glymur Soft Shell w/hood jacket, which, interestingly comes up under Mens. Having tried them on, I'd say the ones in my TKM are women's, based on the sizing and the cut (they have chestybump room). They're in the menswear dept, though... The women's version comes up, too. They looked rather nice, apart from the brick/tan colourway. I'd say the design look the wrong way around, in terms of the design of the chest area... maybe that's why they didn't sell...

Sorry, Hutchie; I meant to say that * meant I'd bought them; it would have been 'rude not to' buy them at that price...

TK MAXX Charlton. Lots of Poles, Lithuanians, Russians and Nigerians who think they are in Heaven

Well! I just bought a 66N Vatnajokull Down jacket from the Bolton TK Maxx. Less than 80 quid with the VAT reduction. It's thicker than my sleeping bag! As you say - it would have been rude not to. Maybe even churlish.
|
 |
I saw one of the 66N Down Jackets in the Hanley Branch when I had a look I at first thought it was a Sleeping Bag!.
|
 |
Virtually nothing in the Brighton store.......
|
 |
Checked on the 66 North website www.66north.com the Vatnajokull Down Jacket is featured at a price of Euro 370. As the Euro about equal to the £ then £80 does seem a bargain. As an aside the website describes the Vatnajokull Jacket as a "......walking sleeping bag" so what was said above is shared by the makers.

I couldn't find a down jacket when I posted above; the only Vatnajokull I could find was specified as Primaloft. But the TKM ones were certainly labelled (and felt like) down. Weird, as it's there now... And, yes, it's filled most bigly, so you could hardly miss the things in bright orange...

CP, the Glymur Softshell is a mens fit, its just extremely athelticly cut" like a triangle shape". Having been to Iceland last winter and summer, i had a look at their gear and thought it was far too expensive for me to buy out their, It was very very pricey. I then popped into TK maxx after the heads up of this thread, and bought a Vatnajokull down jacket and a Glymur softshell. Our Guide had the Vatnajokull down jacket when we went in winter, and it was a amazing bit of kit! It would compare to the Rab neutrino andes that i have "for warmth not weight". will
