It's mainly just snowboarding jackets in my local TK Maxx. And which one is that? You could at least try to help others. My son bought me a Paramo Trekker Hoody the other day for £25 in the Croydon one; and the Maidstone one has quite a lot of Paramo, Raichsle, Meindl and Patagonia stuff.

Alas, non of that has ever come to the Taunton branch . Pretty good for goretex gloves though...................

What do you mean I "...could at least try to help others"?! Whenever I find a good bargain I post it on this thread, the point of that post was just to say how there is never any good jackets like a lot of people find. Stafford by the way, as I always state when I find a bargain!!

Nothing to note in Brighton. Last year we has some good stuff but not this year....

I picked up a berghaus temperance jacket in yellow I've been after for ages... hid it in the wrong area hehe Walked in the other day and it had been moved to the clearance section - £73 That's Proshell Goretex with the best hood ever!

I got an amazing deal on a Vaude Switchback eVENT jacket the other day, it was the Merry Hill branch. Was in the clearance section for £27!! It is priced online at 280 Euros, bargain! Only one there though. In the Stafford branch there are a few pairs of Uggs for the ladies, not the ones that are useless in bad weather but really good ones with Vibram soles, and waterproof leather and eVENT uppers, reduced from £200 to £100. Mainly sizes 4 and 6. I usually hate Uggs but these really are good.

In particular the brand "Ugg Australia" is a complete scam and con.. the boots are made in China for an American company, there is no connection whatsoever with Australia. In fact, they tried to sue Australian companies making their traditional boots! Only ever buy Uggs that say "made in Australia"

After looking into it a bit, these are the brand that are fashionable at the minute. They are good quality boots, sheepskin liner etc.

CP - do you have some sort of technique for finding stuff in TKM? Whenever I go in a branch the apparent randomness of stuff means I get fed up looking in about 5 minutes. I CAN manage looking at the shoe racks, though, as these usually seem to have some sort of order.

I'm exactly the same as you - I just don't have the patience to go through all the racks as it's either really hot in the store, or there's a load of pyjama wearing chav twats acting the, er, twat! Is there some sort of method to finding the good stuff, CP?

Somewhat OT for a TK Maxx thread but... But I have UGG Australia boots and mine are made in Australia. They are not all made in China. "Ugg" is a generic term in Oz for sheepskin boots. The scam is from fake sites who don't deliver anything and from the shops who sell ugg-style boots make from synthetic materials. "Ugg" is not a trade mark but UGG Australia are hoping they can make it so; no chance when it has been a generic term like "wellies" for generations. p.s. my UGG Australia boots are 12 months old and have seen a lot of bad weather to no detriment.

i just skim down the rows and usually pick out any quality gear right away. If you know what your looking for it's not so bad.

After looking into it a bit, these are the brand that are fashionable at the minute. Yes, the scam is a successful one. Re Uggs, it is not a discussion I am interested in.. "Uggs" is short for "Ugly," after all! This site will tell you more about the Ugg Wars and the Decker Corporation, if you're interested. I bought some Mortels for my daughter which are in a different league. Re TK Maxx, I have a foot in both camps. The shelves drive me to distraction - including boots and shoes which here in Maidstone can be in three separate locations and the only thing you know if you find one you like in the size 10 section is that it will more likely be a size 8. On the other hand it is like prospecting for gold, every now and again you come across a real find and it keeps you going.. like the Paramo hoody and the Patagonia shoes I'm wearing now

 > CP - do you have some sort of technique for finding stuff in TKM? Head for the 'activewear' sections; they're usually clearly marked. There may be a 'snowsports' section at this time of year, too. Take a quick spin down the Clearance section. Years of practice at kitfondling means that quality stands out, so that I can wander down the aisles just scanning the racks, and the material quality identifies the good stuff; like the recent Cloudveil stuff, it almost jumped off the racks at me. Basically, my brain has become trained to spot good stuff...
