My local TK Maxx (Hanley - Stoke on Trent) has some nice looking Stainless Steel water bottles. They are 26 0z (800 ml?), BPA Free. Price circa £5.00. In my branch they are "tucked away" with the Kitchen equipment!.

Central Milton Keynes is loaded with marmot jackets/trousers today... i walked out with... lowe alpine ridge WP trousers RRP £50 i got for £8 Montane Trousers £8 Vaude Switchback WP Jacket RRP £300 (dodgy RRP?)... £49...but the spanners in there have tagged the jackets right through the back across the shoulder leaving a hole. i asked if they would cut more off the price and they said no!

 > but the spanners in there have tagged the jackets right through the back across the shoulder leaving a hole I've reported that to both the instore managers, and TK Maxx corporate. Reply as follows: <quote> Dear Kevin Thank you for your email. I will certainly pass these comments over to the distribution centre where they tag and ticket items to make sure they are following the correct procedures to ensure this doesn't happen again. Once again thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. Kind regards,

Thanks for the link CP...i think i might stop by after work and grab that vaude jacket...seems crazy not too......its only a pinprick hole, will just a little self-adhesive gore-tex patch the size of penny suffice do you think?
|
 |
I'd go for the iron-on seam seal tape, rather than the thick Gore-tex patches. Cheaper, too. Just cut a disk of tape. Remember, though: "a bargain's only a bargain if it's something you need". Does that jacket do what you want? Does it fit you properly? (He asks, being a terrible one for 'red mist bargain kit monster frenzy'...) Both the items used in that article were from TK Maxx... I'm not that clumsy with crampons...

Reading this thread has me asking the question: "Why is my TK Maxx so crap?!" There's never anything decent in there, although I did buy a good pair of running shorts from there a month or so ago, but that's all really...

My local branch is in Leeds. On a very, very good day its like a jumble sale in there. On most other days it's just hellish. Been to branches in Warrington Manchester and Stockport too. I can never find anything in there that is worth spending time in the place. Am i just unlucky? There was a Paramo coat in there todaywhich really shocked me. £120 for a fuera jacket was a bit steep though!!

With all of this cold weather around I will now have the opportunity of wearing my extremely warm 66 Degrees North Duvet Jacket which I purchasd from TK Maxx for £100 approx 12 months ago.(Listed on the 66 Degrees North website at 388.50 Euros which equates to approx £350 and described as a walking sleeping bag of warmth)I was in the Stafford TK Maxx store approx 5/6 weeks ago and they still had a couple of these jackets in stock but the price had increased to £119.99 and with the present cold spell of weather I guess that someones probably snapped them up by now.I am always trawling the Hanley store for bits of top quality outdoor clothing but it'svery hard to spot anything of real interest.Oh and by the way I got the Duvet in a dark green colour rather than the bright orange one which appears on the website.

Leeds city centre branch today: Somewhat uniquely, the women's section had lots of quality kit and the men's only had a few odd-coloured paramo fleeces - left-overs from my last update. The outdoor kit seems to be all mixed in with the ski stuff - and they have had LOADS of female Cloudveil stuff delivered. We have only been able to afford it in the Slush'n'Rubble 1/2 price sale previously. It's brilliant kit on a par with Arc'teryx. I've been after a new duvet for ages and the ones in the onine sales have been in horrible colours or in nasty face-fabric. I got a Cloudveil Inversion hooded parka today and it's superb. They had lots of different jackets, primaloft, down, GoreTex, softshell, windproofs and powerstretch bases. All at less than half-price and in all sizes from S to XL. My duvet is in black, like the one above. It's got Taslan shoulder pieces for longevity. The cut is the best duvet I have had; no Michelin Man effect. It says online that it's 18oz - that's 510 grams. Love it.

I was in tk yesterday and asked the staff when they got deliveries in, they told me it was three times a day (central milton keynes) and the distribution centre is based in mk. im now trying to convince my girlfriends little sister to get a job there so I can educate her as to what gear is worth setting aside for me, also hoping they do a staff discount. Im a fairly new convert to the tkmaxx hunt, im struggling to keep out of there to be honest, trying to figure out if im insane or fiendishly clever....am i right to buy something becauswe its so cheap or am i stupid to buy something i didnt intend to buy? For example, Montane featherlite cargo pants, RRP£65 odd, i bought for £8 knowing i didnt need them, didnt like the cut or colour, have numerous other "spares" and could have used the money for an upcomming trip to garrotxa valley in a week or so....BUT they were so cheap i couldnt resist, i mean £8 for a well made pair of trousers.... is that smart? it must be? might be a bad example as they were so cheap, but the same goes for a lowe alpine fleece jacket for £20, lowe alpine wp's for £8, many many softshells, etc etc etc....i tell myself i will use them one day but then go out the very next week and "replace" the stuff ive not used with more super "bargains"....in my head know i still think its smart tho? do i need a kicking? it is smart tho, isnt it. Im clever, arent i? Please tell me it is.

Technically we call this the "Ikea effect" .. buying things not because you want or need them at all, but pretty much just in salute to someone who is able to sell them so amazingly cheaply.. I do the same from time to time and I'm hoping that it is the ability to spot such amazing deals that makes me so attractive to the opposite sex, who seem to value such abilities.. not spotted any other advantages so far

Interestingly, a thread just appeared on UKC about TK Maxx bargains. Only for it to disappear... I suspect a bit of over-zealous 'must protect the site advertisers' going on.
