Towels provide personal care and good hygiene habits for the outdoor person. They are essential for washing and cleaning. There are all too many smelly hikers on long distance hauls and it's not uncommon for one to walk in a shop and have everyone else leave holding their nose.

One especially radically different towel i have tried are the lightload towels. These are only 16 grams and the size of a half dollar but they open to a nice double sized hand towel. They are also wickable for the cold weather and are more absorbent than the microfiber and cotton. They are small enough to just put in your pants so if pack weight is an issue you've  just solved it.

Has anyone tried the new lightload Towels at amazon.co.uk or anything like it?

If you keep washing, doesn't queing in shops take much longer?

Don't take all this personally DaHiker, banter on OM is usually well meant.

Welcome to the forum.

Maybe paranoia but this seems like a bit of a plug to me; I don't know many other people who ask if people have tried a towel off amazon.  It all seems very marketing schpeil pointing me towards the shop.

Forgive me if I'm wrong and in which case an appology is due but really I don't want to buy one from your company thank.

Frankly, if it's not from Nigeria and can't enlarge my penis I just don't think it's good value for money.

Is 'the size of half a dollar' an official designation from the CIA handbook, along the lines of 'about the size of Texas'?

;-)

i've seen those b4 it's great wen u see how small they are but once you put it in water or use it it will come out of that shape and you wont be able to get it back to that size.

its basically like a dehydrated towel

or i might be wrong but thats what i expect

Ive used it as a wind scarf, toilet paper, first aid supplement, pot holder and glass cleaner out of the package.

But when you do take it out of the package it's not that compact again, like you say but it is lighter out of the package so instead of 16 grams its 14 grams.

The manufacturer though suggests water if you want to soften it but dont wet it if you want to use it as a wind scarf or fire starter device.

and 2.50 for something that is only really any good the once. I suppose you could use it after, just around the house, but after say about 3 of them you could buy a packable towel which will pack down small every time and will absorb more water.

go on the yoofs

"wind scarf, toilet paper, first aid supplement..."

Not in that order, I hope.

Hey....dont get uppity and beyond your station

I just go to my local supermarket and pick up a microfibre cloth - costs pennies and if its good enough for a cooker, its good enough for me!

I use a flannel (aka face cloth) from Tescos.  25p.  And it has multiple uses.  I can't say I've ever used it as a head scarf or fire-starter, though.

> Maybe paranoia but this seems like a bit of a plug to me

And to me.  But then I'm that way inclined, of course...
