All credit to Italy though.  They played very much better than last week and deserved to be challenging for a win at the end.

But even so .......

From what people have said on here though, Ireland were pretty crap against Italy too last week - or is it that Italy are improving? I thought they made some good plays there, and whoever it was was right to say that Scotland might be a bit worried after their injuries.

Have to agree though that England were 'piss poor'.

Oh dear.  If we'd played this badly last week we wouldn't even have beaten Wales.
How many times do I have to say it, Frum, Wales beat themselves last week.

To be serious though, I'm confused and disappointed by the poor quality of England's effort today.

I think the highlight of the afternoon was Brian Moore announcing that he had qualified as a Ref, and Nick Mullin saying that was like putting Jack the Ripper in charge of Scotland Yard.

LOL!!!

But he'll only ref scrums - won't have a clue what's going on elsewhere on the field!

BTW.  I won my bet that Mal would respond to "wouldn't even have beaten Wales" within 5 minutes.

Eh? Wasn't I supposed to then? I thought we were engaging in bandage or conversion or something like that.

Good job the opposition so far has been poor, let's hope England is the less poor when they play Ireland, eh?

Certainly not! I'll not be supporting England against Ireland!

But aren't you English?

NO.

I'm sure we've been through this before. I'm partly Irish, so I've never considered myself English, as opposed to British.

Oh, sorry, I made the foolish mistake of going by your surname, accent and country of birth.

How much Irish, and what are the other parts?

Well, it's easy to do. Some of those Italians don't have Italian surnames, accents or countries of birth either.

I'm 25% Irish, Frum, the rest is English. The Irish has always been important to me. I'm sure there are loads of other people with an Irish grandparent who consider themselves to be entirely English, but identity is a personal thing.

I'm an eighth Irish an eighth English and three quarters (those words again, Frum) Welsh by blood but I feel 100% British.

Eh? You obviously do not have the measure of me, Milly. I will always support a British team against feelthy foreigners...seriously.

Humble apologies, Mal

Well, another sterling performance from England. Very courageous.

I love the way England takes the gentlemanly approach by letting sides like Italy play a bit of rugby and give them the perceived ability to beat us. It gives the home supporters something to cheer about.

Wilkinson deliberately missing those penalties was a tad obvious, so was the deliberate lack of initiative from the backs by continually kicking the ball to the opposition. Less obvious was the insipid lineout throwing. Very clever use by England of taking advantage of the new law of holding onto a player once tackled... it gave Italy all of their points.

All in all a classic game. One to remember!

Er, they played in Rome, not Scotland!
