As part of my 2 year PGCE (currently in year one) I do an independent learning project - its only about 5000 to 6000 words and is really a literary review, with some practical thrown in as opposed to origional research. I have seen various graphs and data about gas mixtures here..but cant remember where or what the sources were! Can you point me in the right direction please! Oh...before you ask, I am going to try to establish what effect using a gas mixture has over using pure butane - and if I have time/inclination, see if I can identify what effect using a suitable windshield has - will using a suitable windshield with pure butane have a similar effect to using a gas mix in cold weather. Thanks

Bump where are CP or Frum when you need them?

Sorry Simon, the question is not about meths. But I would say you need a windshield to keep out draughts whatever the temperature, and the lower the temperature, the more important it is to have the mixture. You need someone more technically savvy than I am to give details of butane and propane characteristics.

I dont know....ask a simple question and all I get is an answer revolving around alcohol!

.JPG) Simon - this what you were after? Of course, if the fuel is bog-standard propane/butane mix, your partially empty canister will behave differently as the propane is used up, leaving the less volatile butane behind. Especially noticeable if it's cold.
Meths may be slower, but at least you can see how much is left, and it burns consistently...

........... and it's FUN.

Yeah Mole, Thats the stuff...I'll have to see if I can get hold of CP direct to find out where the data comes from

You'll probably find this useful: http://www.bushwalking.org.au/FAQ/FAQ_Mixtures.htm

should be interesting what you find Simon. Do the two gases burn off independently or do they form a gaseous mixture to some degree?
|
 |
Andy, it depends on what temperature the canister is, read that article I linked to, gives a pretty decent explanation of it.

 |
Very good Spen, thats answered a lot of my questions. Thanks

Sorry about half an hour or so of your life disappearing! Shortly after reading all of that i cut open a gas canister just to see the inside of one, now I've got 18 lindal valves sat in my coursework folder, watch your sanity! (The project is centered around the jetboil though so I have good reason to be a little nuts and have all that stuff!)

Oh dear....Spen, someone your age should be doing something else...
|
 |
Karl...you have just been ignored (and I have also reported you for being offensive)

BTW Kunert, 46 posts, you're a prepuce. Read the following slowly, though I suspect you have no choice in that. Barry has put you on ignore. That means he cannot see any of the risible drivel that you have written on this forum so your last couple of posts, like you, are pointless. Now I'm putting you on my ignore list and I won't be able to read any of your inane ramblings as they won't appear on my screen. Understand?

Forget him Colm... He will know that we can see he has made the last post - but his post just doesnt appear (to us anyway) so its like watching through a double glazed window - we can see he is saying something...dont know what it is...dont care what it is...as he is the one outside in the cold and rain and we arent.

 |
Two letters surplus to requirement in that moniker of his, don't you think?
|
 |
Probably... I can see he is jumping around outside - cant make out what he is saying though....
