Or you carrying JB off somewhere, with or without her WW books, eh Benco!

Touch of jealousy perhaps MK?!

It must be time to bring back the Bradbury thread where ppl kept posting pictures of her.

Didn't ALpkit do something like them too? The ones where they climb or kayak. You buy them andhave to put them together. What a load of rubbish. Still, someone made a bit out of them I'm sure.

I once took one of those metal mesh rucksack secure netting things to south america. Never used it in the 4 months I was there and it weighed a ton. Cost a lot too if I remember rightly.

Maybe they have a use?

Perhaps if you want to catch a really angry metal shark in Ladybower.

I've got one of those things too, I suspect that the idea is to make your rucksack too heavy for a would be thief to carry off.

 PS: Sorry MK, my bad.

The all-in-one knife/fork/spoon on a penknife

How on earth are you supposed to eat with one of these, even if you can pick it up due to the weight

And then someone gave me a second  one as a present

So now I can have a  knife/fork/spoon in each hand, with only double the useless weight

I'd put it out for the charity bag collection, if Ididn't suspect the local constabulary would follow up my intent

'I once took one of those metal mesh rucksack secure netting things to south america. Never used it in the 4 months I was there and it weighed a ton.'

I used one of these one summer when I was travelling around Russia through dodgy Russian airports and on open carriages in trains. I still had it on the bag when I got back to Sheffield, where I was living at the time. My house mate came to pick me up at the station and I lobbed the bag in the boot without looking what else was in there. We then started driving along the road, and noticed smoke coming out the boot. Turns out there was an old car battery in the back that had made connection with the mesh and had started a current going round my bag and set it on fire!!! Never used one of them again! I loved that rucksac too

Not only pointless but a hazard as well!

Best slash proofer is a layer of duck tape or similar along the lining. If they want your bag that desperately a metal mesh won't deter them.

Another purchase for that trip that was useless was a rucksack bag thing designed to go over your pack and keep all the straps etc from flying about.

Didn't even fit my pack! And now it's used for storing old clothes I need to go through for charity!

Goretex lined boots. Bloody useless.

Can strain spaghetti through them in less than a year.

(So not entirely useless)

Gorillapod,

Nice idea, funny name - does the same job as a 50p beanbag.

How do you fix a bean bag to a tree branch? Or a knobbly rock?
Hold the beanbag between the camera and the rock/branch.  If you need it to be steadier than that then the gorillapod isn't up to it either.

Mmmm so when you run around to be in the picture (which is my idea of a 'tripod' such as that) - ?
Yup. That's what I use it for. It works rather well. Perfect for self portraits or cheesy group summit shots.
I get Mrs RaR to do that

@OP: Is it bad that I actually think the flow metter is quite a good Idea?

When I use a hydration system I actually find it quite tricky to keep track of the amount of water I have left and don't necessarily want to stop and delve into my pack to check manually.

Seems expensive for what it is, but not useless.

Hmm.... Selfheating food, a knife and fork, expensive firelighting equipment, a pillow, OTT (head)torches . However, most gimicky stuff is made gimicky by people taking it when they don't need it, not the thing itself.
