decafinated coffee (what good is that!). Well, it's actually quite good if you like coffee, but can't drink the caffeinated stuff because it gives you ectopic heartbeats.very
very good point but you could always make coffee from dandilion root chopped up and roasted then ground (super yum!)

Buffs...overpriced bits of cloth, the biggest con ever and worn by Pratts everywhere. Buff clones sold in the cheaper shops.
I think buffs have many uses, a simple filter prior to using a steripen. A snotrag. Adishcloth. A makeshift bandage when you have forgottne our first aid kit although best not after using as a snotrag. It keeps sweat out of eyes and of your glasses if worn as a bandana or headband. You can look like a tit but at least if you are comfortable what does that really matter in the hills. MK - did you see Top Gear on BBC2 tonight? They had the sheewee on it. Here's a good image for you... Jeremy Clarkson with a a sheewee located where it shouldn't be! They seemed to be hung up with the blurb on thepacket saying with the sheewee women could pee anywhere such as in the car, train or in queues! They had an image of a lass peeing into the bag in the post office queue.

They make good gags too. Especially effective when used with duct tape restraints.

 Meh....
|

In the darkness and silence of the night there lurks creature not known to modern science. IF you look hard you might just spot it hiding in the deepest, darkest shadows during the day, but cometh the night, the deepest and darkest part of the night it comes out. "MEH! MEH! MEH!" It cries! For it is a Mr Sworld. So if you should be online sometime between 12:30 and 2:30 in the night do watch out for you too might be "Meh'ed!". Sleep safe. YOUY have been warned.

Buffs...overpriced bits of cloth, the biggest con ever and worn by Pratts everywhere. Nowt wrong with Buffs, unlike the 'improved' buffs they also make. Take a buff (which works like it's supposed to) then stitch or laminate extra bits on so it no longer works....and charge even more for it.

then stitch or laminate extra bits on so it no longer works Tried a "Visor Buff" in the shop and... null points! (visor much too floppy to be much use if there's any wind and otherwise just gets in the way) But the basic and polar versions are excellent multi-use items. I get a lot of use out of mine, the missus likes hers, and the kids like theirs (Big Hits as Chrimbo presents). Pete.

Oh dear Benco; I bought 1000 mile blister-free socks (2 pairs) and have a Petzl Zipka Plus 2, does that make me a cock-knocker? I was really pleased with them too.

never a truer word
probably accompaniied by a map case on a string
|
 |
It depends what you do with the string, Weevil. String round your neck is not terribly bright, but one end of string tied to map-case, other end tied to rucksack, map-case tucked in rucksack outer pocket is very helpful. Map-case can't escape in gales.

not tucked into a buff then?

I'll let you off for the Petzl Zipka , I meant the really big suckers with cables and battery compartments strapped on all over, you know, the ones that set fire to your head when something goes wrong with them. 1000 mile socks? glad they worked for you but I won't be trying them in again in a hurry. To be fair my favourite is a solar buff so I have gone a little way to the dark side, the missus has a polar and she likes it, can't see the point myself, when it's that cold I wear a hat and use the buff as a scarf. PS: I must confess I also have a merino buff which I really like.

regarding the buff argument i find them handy as i shave my head and for straining water prior to treatment but i agree they are over priced i have picked up non brand ones for about £4.50 same fabric what about titanium vs aluminium pot depate, does anybody think aluminium heats water faster or is titanium the be and end all off outdoor cooking i mean when are we going to be able to pick up a channel or dior 1.0litre engraved cook pot (please excuse the sarcasm !)

TFS wrote ( see) Has anyone mentioned DIY meths stoves on this thread yet? Can't say they're overpriced anyway.

there are a lot of people in america that make there own meths stove i cant see the point as you can buy a white box stove for about £20pound inc postage.but i should imagine it takes quite a degree of skill
