Gorillapod,

Nice idea, funny name - does the same job as a 50p beanbag.

How do you fix a bean bag to a tree branch? Or a knobbly rock?
Hold the beanbag between the camera and the rock/branch.  If you need it to be steadier than that then the gorillapod isn't up to it either.

Yup. That's what I use it for. It works rather well. Perfect for self portraits or cheesy group summit shots.

I have a Coughlan one.  The blade is well enough braced not to band/snap, and the leading edge is sharp enough to cut turf.  It seems to work pretty well, in fact.

Pete.

Mine's from Backpackinglight, although it looks identical to the Coghlan model and it works fine.  Where are you people trying to take a dump - on a tarmacked carpark?

Cotwsolds website is bloody awful. I'm amazed they haven't changed it - they must be aware of the negative feedback.

Cotswolds marketing department ain't too clever either - they keep sending me multiple copies of the same catalogue. Which contains lots of gimicky crap oddly enough.

That good?  They must have improved it a great deal since I last went there...

Phil - I used to get Ellis Brigham catalogues through the door twice for each catalogue they do. The Ski one and the normal one. That is 4 catalogues through the door, two of each. I don't get the Cotswolds one anymore. IMHO Cotswolds is only any good if you re-join the ramblers every third year and get a 20% off card for Cotswolds. It makes everything the same price as other stores in my neck of the woods.

Wainwright books.
